Re: Rx-7 Rally Car v3.0!

Been studying 12 hours a day for exams next week.

The angle of the engine is concerning because the more I look at the angle of the transmission, the more I'm worried about driveshaft clearance. I can probably re position the motor in a good, long day. I'm also not convinced I like how i mounted the transmission either. I'm going to drink tea and give it a good hard stare after final exams.

3. I need to resolve the fuel issues to make it compliant with RA and NASA. Who the hell knows what nonsense ARA will add but not a problem at the moment. Anyway, NASA states may second "spare" pump needs to be mechanically separated. AJ point out that moving a switch IS a mechanical process, but the letter of the law disagrees. So i ll have to replumb things with a valve at the pumps.

3. da fuq you on about? Chapter and verse again?

Quote
GRR Section 3.25.6 Secondary Fuel Pumps
The fitting of a second fuel pump is authorized, but this must be only
a spare fuel pump, i.e. it cannot operate in addition to the authorized
pump. It must be connectable by means of a purely mechanical
device situated beside the pumps.

It would be hard to argue for the switch with "PURELY MECHANICAL" in there.

I can't find anything about not allowing lexan side-windows to roll down though.

My guess is somebody wants a mechanical shut off valve... so you can't flick a switch and have both pumps running...which would do what??? Send more fuel back to the tank... sounds weird.

Hey it means when your pump dies you get to get out on stage, put a triangle, flick a switch, get your triangle....

winking smiley

Edit... really by the word it just needs to be connected by a mechanical device, doesn't say what is to be connected... Mount the pump on a door hinge... and wait for a wording change.

yea just seems silly to have to go through all that nonsense to turn a back up pump on.

Fuel pump A overheats and craps out, switch to fuel pump B, which also overheats and craps out because the hot fuel in the tank is what is making it overheat, so switch BOTH of them on so maybe crap plus crap equals enough.

Anyway, about that Subaru brake booster. How much screwing around was required to get it in the car? Swap the clevis and adjust some brake lines and Bob's your uncle, or was firewall surgery required?

I'm asking for a friend who just picked up an '81 with a rusted through brake booster.

I get why you would want 2 pumps running. My question is what performance advantage would it give that you would want to regulate it? Isn't the amount of fuel dependant on the injectors and the pressure? Are fuel pump outputs regulated in anything but production???

Just seems like a silly rule...

i agree on silly ruling.

Pete, it was pretty easy honestly. I did use the GSLSE booster spacer to get the distance from the pedal about right, and I needed to widdle down the threaded part of the rod to the clevis like 2mm to adjust back enough.

photos seem crappier than expected, but this should give an idea the droop in the front.

Hey, you're alive!

seems so!

Working on my doctorate so I generally find myself doing that instead of the important things, like racing.

That said I really hope to get this car done here before summer. At least in terms of driving about. Really want to feel how this suspension works now that I've functionally de-Mazdaed the back half.

Still rallycrossing Pete?
