I don't doubt Dave's welding skills, I just wanted to see them as I'm an aspiring B- welder.

cheers!

Dave's cage has saved the crew in my car enough times.

Good choice for a cage builder.

I did the cage that way because I hate spiderwebs in the main hoop. I was also working from what I thought was the current FIA regs but they weren't up to the minute. THe latest ones clearly require an X in the main hoop for cars homologated after 2002 while the version I was working off clearly also allowed the X to be positioned how it is in the pictures above. But wait! Jason's car is a 1994 Golf which was obviously homologated before 2002 thus the above design is currently FIA legal and hence RA legal. Yet RA won't accept it. Yes, the car was LOGBOOKED in 2007 but the CAR, a 1994 VW Golf was HOMOLOGATED prior to 2002. Does RA not know the definition of homologated? Or does homologated mean the same thing as logbooked to them? I think we need a clearer definition of homologated and all get on the same page. Basically, we need the FIA definition of homologated since that's all that matters.
Anyway, I told Jason if we needed to change the V bars to an X to get a logbook I would do it, but he got a NASA logbook. I hate spiderwebs in the main hoop.

Oh, and thanks for all the props. Some of the welds could be prettier. I need to get a hand trigger for my TIG welder. It's hard to use your foot, knee, elbow, etc to work the foot pedal when you're sprawled around in a weird position inside the car! Hey Jason, let's see some pics of the cage painted. They always look better painted.

Get one Dave (the TiG hand control); you'll kick yourself for waiting so long!

Hehe... I got a chuckle out of that... I've used all of the above methods... I also don't have the finger control, obviously...
