Hand Brake firmness? Brakes bleed possibly air in the lines?
April 26, 2014 06:36PM
So I have dual masters, balance bar, plus hydraulic hand brake. It's a .625 wilwood girling style.

Front brakes seem to bleed super quickly. Rears, it seems as if theres a pocket somewhere and i took almost a few hours to get out. The peddle is now firm might get a little firmer when pumping but its hard to tell. The hand brake you can pull it back 1/3rd to 1/2 way before it starts to get really firm.

I know on my old car, the hand brake was firm almost immediately; although it as a .75 cheapo cylinder. I dont think that should make a difference. I'm thinking there's still air in the lines even though the peddle is firm.

If you push the peddle, then hand brake its firm immediately.

Any suggestions? Leaving the bleeder open and just pumping the pedal really pushed a ton of fluid through quickly, but no more air at this point.

Pump the brake pedal with the handbrake pulled all the way back. Works great.

May be a dumb question, but do you have your in and out correct on your hand brake?

The last one i did, i just left my hand brake in the normal off position and bleed my brakes as normal. All the air came out like normal and the hand brake worked great as soon as all the air was out and my hand brake goes stiff as soon as the foot brake is pressed.

A 3/4 will get stiffer quicker because its moving more fluid then the 5/8. The 5/8 will lock the rear wheels with less effort but with the expense of travel. The hand brake gets stiffer quciker with the foot pedal because you did most of the fluid work with the foot pedal. Your fine go rally that thing!
