Master Cylinder Port Plugs
May 19, 2014 08:00AM
If anyone will know you guys will. I'm looking for a port plug for my VW's master cylinder. Its the standard VW metric bubble flare jobbie. Anyone know of a place that sell them? Have a spare they want to send me?

I'm trying to block a port off so I can run just a single line to the rear.

Thanks
Dave

i have always taken an old brake line nut with the tube still in it, chop off the tube flush with the back of the nut, thread it into something like a brake line splitter, line connectors, something you can mount in a vice, and then I weld the back side of the nut shut. I have done this on several cars and it's worked great.

I have gotten the brake light pressure switch for an early Beetle, they cost about $4, plus then you can actually use the switch if you want. Otherwise, it's just a great plug for the unused hole.

I used a 10mm to -4 AN adapter and then used a cap on that. Works well. But the bug light switch should work too (might need a crush washer though). I did have to use a crush washer under the adapter since I haven't been able to find one with the male flare sealing surface. I also use blue loctite for the added layer of protection.

or grab one from an 8090/4000 quattro. They use a 4 port master with only thre live ones. Snag a nice OEM jobbie at the junker

Thanks all! So I took the Audi brake port plug one step farther. I saw a pic of one and scratched my head... looked just like a brake bleeder screw. So I called the local trusted NAPA and asked if they had any in an M10x1 as needed. Low and behold they do and when I told them what I wanted it for the guy said he he's seen it done before... boom done! 2 bucks and I'm on my way.

Thanks again

And you can even bleed your master cylinder now. Good to know!
