XR Build Thread

The Ex-Medcroft, now Clark xratty had an issue with the passenger side strut tower pulling away from the body (after a few rallies I believe). A strut bar/brace was added and it hasn't happened since.

The car has a longitudinal bar from the front roll hoop to the tower as well, and lots of stitch welding and reinforcements. The second bar, diagonally up bar in your model, might be a good idea.

It looked like it was going In. The top plate that goes from the tower to the inner fender/ frame horn thing was pulling away from frame horn thing.

Interesting. I'll have to keep an eye on that. Do you think that adjusting the positive camber to negative camber using the Medcroft adjustable controlling arms could be accelerating the issue? If you move the wheels out it puts a different angle on the tower right?

More rust at the intersection of the rocker and the floor than I was expecting, a lot of places look fine until you try and stick a screwdriver through and it goes through like butter. I'll be working all weekend with a wire wheel and cutoff disk.

Possibly. It puts the strut top pointing towards the center of the car, so it would be pulling it away from the fender.

Learning to weld by stitching the car prior to sending it off to be caged. About 10 days of rain has delayed progress a bit.

I'll be closing up the rockers soon. Anyone have any good experience with a rust converter, restorer, reformer, etc that isnt snake oil? There is some rusty bits that just cant be taken out or cleaned up well. It would be great to not have to open these rockers up again.

Has anyone used dual masters with the stock XR brakes?

What have people done for rear stay connections to the bodywork? My local NASA inspector wont accept what is on Skye's car (1st image) and wants to see it more like the 2nd image. Is there a good way to load the strut into the cage but also make the inspector happy?

Scott (Izzy's Custom Cages) did my original cage like this picture shows.

I can't say if it is better or not, but it seems that it would be. If you were worried about the tops, you could put some material over them, and tie it in to that plate, it would seem.

Ask the local NASA guy to show you chapter and verse explaining clearly why the top piccie is unacceptable..
