And what are you attaching that .125 material to? Metal alreadt 036 to 040..

Maybe something closer to 085-090 is overkill enough

Just reinforce them. John and Robert are right on the money. Must cars I have seen have just cut a flat piece and laid it over the top of the tower and just welded around the edge and around the center circle.

that's what ive seen a lot of, fortunately ive had the chance to get up close a little with a focus. im going to be taking a large lookover on Erik Hills car this year. hopefully figure some stuff out.

too bad Steely's focus burned up last year. it was cool having a few around for reference. Im sure whiskers could drive 4 hours and give me advice while building my cage. IF I have him do it that is. I really think Doug does good work, but Whiskers price was for a cage built in a week... hmmmm

Someone on the Minnesota thread said that Doug was possibly done with cages.
I still want to try to do one on a long weekend. Pretty sure we could do it provided the car interior was mostly ready and we didn't have beer in the fridge. I suppose we could try with either the red or silver BMW.

Doug offered to build mine before mid fall. after that I may be screwed. but he made it sound like he might pick it back up sometime

If you've got the engine out try and add some extra welds at the base of the front strut towers if they didn't get augmented when seam welding. OEM has like 5 robot made spot welds holding it together. I managed to tear one off at NEFR a couple of years ago. Mind you, that ZX3 had a lot of events under its bonnet.

Riley, not meaning to jack your thread or anything but don't feel like starting a new one as its related, sorta. becaus one day you may need to replace a windshield.
Any of the focus peeps know how interchangeable the windshield is between 2000-2007? ie will the sedan windshield fit the zx3, wagon or anyother body style? Mix n match.

It should be the same but give a shop a call. 'Round these parts a new OEM Ford shield is ~$103.

that's quite a bit more HP and TQ than my car puts to the ground (44% more hp)

should be a total blast. definitely leave it alone for a season or two (hopefully that's like 4-8 rallies for you )

not sure what gearing / final drive you are running. but its likely that you'll get a bigger speed bump doing a final drive (if not already optimized) than adding 5-15 more hp .

good alignment is gonna help a bunch too.

thumbs up smiley

It's getting a close gear 3 through 5 gear set and a 4.25ish final drive

It should be a fun little car. It needs to be retuned but oh well. It's like 140-145 on the stock tune now
