Price reduced!
I've finally quit kidding myself that I have the time prioritized for this GTX, so it is for sale. It is located in Fayetteville, AR. I originally bought it from Dave Kern 4 years ago and have only driven it a handful of times on family/friend's farmland after I purchased it. It has been in garage storage and hasn't been started in the last year since the battery stopped turning it over. It was a hill climb car that competed in the Colorado Hill Climb Series, Pikes Peak, and Rally Idaho. My plan was to rally cross and then stage rally it. Currently the car is set up to run normally aspirated, although it needs a jump/charge (probably new battery), tuning, and some minor fixes (rear quarter window install, solder in IAT sensor wire, radiator fan, etc. I have the turbo parts to set it up turbo again, it just needs some additional intercooler piping fabrication and mounting. The safety harnesses are out of date. The door bars and roof bar would need to be redone along with the addition of an a-pillar reinforcement bar to get a rally logbook. The GTX weighs 2600 lbs with the glass windows and both skid plates installed. It is a used rally car, it is not a show car. Trailer can also be included, it was purchased from Dave Kern when I bought the GTX. It is a custom 16' steel trailer with two 3500lb axles, with trailer brakes on both axles. It has a tilting bed (with hydraulic hand pump, so no ramps are needed), it has a rail down each side (~30" wide) with a big opening in the middle, so when the car is on the trailer you have good access to the underside. Will include a Tekonsha Prodigy trailer brake controller as well. 1988 Mazda 323 GTX: (pictures on flickr) Safety & Rally Gear and other stuff: Roll cage by Salta Motorsports (1.75x0.095 main hoop, 1.50x0.120 other bars) Momo Start seats Sabelt 3" 6-point seatbelts Custom skid plates Front ¼" 6000 series skid plate – covers everything from the bumper to your feet Middle 0.090" 6000 series skid plate – covers from your feet to the rear axle Terratrip intercom Roof vents (driver & co-driver) Momo steering wheel and spacer Back 5 windows tinted (CHCA requirement for glass) Lightened front and rear bumpers Odyssey PC680 battery mounted in trunk Kill switch 2 fire bottles Starter button 10" tall shifter stand with short throw shifter mod 5 gallon water tank for IC & radiator misters, and water injection Three stage water mister setup (I-intercooler only, II top of radiator, III bottom of radiator) powered by at 40psi RV pump Custom lightweight fiberglass hood with 2 GTR hood vents for radiator/exhaust manifold, and one large vent for the intercooler. Is the car driveable as it sits? Say, 2800kms?
I am seriously considering selling the 02' WRX I just picked up as a DD to purchase this car. If I am to write-off another car possibly driving like a dink, I'd rather it be an inexpensive one... What year was the cage built? |

Cage was built in the fall of 2004 as I seem to remember some guys thrashing to get a VW re-prepped for that race while mine was in the shop.
It raced in CHCA in 2005, part of 2006 (was doing turbo kit upgrades that year and didn't get it all finished in time), and in 2007 it did the full CHCA calendar, Rally Idaho (the year it was all tarmac) and Pikes Peak (in 13:25). Dave |
