I saw that on the "other" forum. Man, I want to take out a loan for $8000 and go pick that car up. It's so awesome! It's RWD, and not a Volvo! (Sorry, Volvo's just aren't very cool to me.)

Seems like 8 grand well spent... you'd have a real hard time building it for that.

You'll have an even harder time fixing it when you hit something.

Way over priced! "Near 200HP" with 40mm Webers? Ain't happening... The factory only got 175HP (1600cc) in 1975 when Hannu Mikkola won "1000 Lakes Rally". That engine had 16 valves (Toyota was very "creative" already then... before turbo fiasco. Where did they sell 16V engines? Nowhere.)
And no air filters = engine's junk in hurry. What are these people thinking?
Low tech, junk "KYB" suspension. "Lincoln" LSD and so on. I don't see anything very valuable on this car.
Having built and rallied many I say this type of Corolla also has the worst steering box & super soft "rubber" steering arms of any Toyota, or any car.
I do like the classic body style - they look cool! In Finland they swap to Starlet or 1980-5 (here 1983 only) Corolla r&p steering and X-member. THEN it a cood one to build & rally.

So would an AE86 Corolla engine be the better bet if one were to do an engine swap?

I'm not doubting your judgement on price, but just out of curiousity, what would you value the car at in its current state?

No. 4AG is only good if you build it up to 2000cc "8AG" which is expensive. Nothing wrong w 3T 1800/2000cc pushrod. Cheap & simple power. Drag racers have very good stuff for 3Ts, specially in Puerto Rico. Cheap, too.
AE86 X-member swap would be good (1983 is the same but you can find it w non power steering rack on base model = better & lighter)
4500 USD is a fair price IF compression is still good and car runs well. That locked rearend is handful w this little power and must go first.
Think - a CR box is $ 5000 (3000 Euros w shipping) for these cars and you really need it. Sometimes the cheapest car will be the most expensive to make competitive.

8ag? I've heard of the 1700 7ag, what do you use for an 8ag?

- TRS "8AG" Full Race has a special "Max-Stroker" crank, Wiseco pistons and Crower billet rods.
- An early Atlantic 255HP BigPort head is recommended - works great with the "8AG".

My "*8AG" is old news but there are many still running and winning. John could build one for you!

Weird. I've always heard that called the "7ag" on the corolla forums/shops as 7a is the block, and G is the head design...

So was the TRS another stroker kit like the HKS "5ag" version?

It' a stroker for the 7a block. Takes it from 1800 to 2000cc.

You probably know but for those that don't, 7a comes in fwd corollas and prizms from the mid 90's.
