EG33 Swapped Subaru Legacy RallyCross, Autocross and Track Day Car For Sale
3.3l, six cylinder engine
Asking $5500 $5000

I’ve developed this car over the last 12 years and it has served me very well but now it has to make way for another project (Porsche 911). I will be sad to see it go but less so if I know it is being flogged in the way it was intended and built for. I know it’s an unusual choice of vehicle but it shares much of its mechanicals with the WRX of its era yet hauls a lot more stuff to the track. Plus, there’s nothing better than beating an STI in an Outback wagon! In it’s current form it is a proven winner in SCCA RallyCross M4 class, it was before the engine swap so is even faster now. In SCCA Autocross it runs in Street Mod (I think) or Prepared and can win with the right tires on. I never ran it suitably equipped but it did win FSP a few years ago with me driving. It usually goes even faster with someone else driving. It will haul all your gear to an in event, win and drive you home. Apart from blowing an engine at Waterford Hills due to a missed shift it has never left me stranded at the track or on the street in 12 years of abuse. Did I mention it’s still street legal? It will get your ice cream home from the super market before it melts too despite the lack of AC. It’s that quick. Some people have even suggested it sounds a bit like a Porsche GT3!

We have never had it on a dyno but it feels quicker than our new project, an 84 911 Carrera. Engine and weight are about the same (flat 6) but the Outback gears in this make it faster off the line. Not to mention the awd traction helps too. On top of that it is probably the only rust free 90s Subaru in Michigan despite having 140K on the chassis. Engine is of unknown mileage but pulls really strong. Most of these engines become available due to their host’s (SVX) transmission giving out. These were all autos so the engine was protected from too much abuse by a big torque converter. This thing is a hoot to drive and could even be used as a daily driver with a few comfort mods (or as is).

Unique is overrated.

How about advantageous...fast? quick? reliable? Easy?

It would be a lot more marketable in a pre OBD2 shell. Stupid emissions laws...

Depends on the state. Emission is harder in PA with a pre 96 car.

Emissions on OBDII cars are done by check engine lights, anyone with a rally car should just be able to shut the codes off, dont know of a car that you cant do that on with aftermarket stuff.

You can't fake a tailpipe test... that is required on pre 96.

Interesting comments.

Decals are vinyl, of course but the yellow and red stripes are paint. I'm sure it could be removed, some of it removed itself. It's just rattle-canned. Black and gray/silver otherwise.

Emissions controls here in Michigan are, well, non-existent. As for other states, I have no idea.

I thought about stage rally as the next step with it but as I have no experience it's not the best car to start in as I think it would be in Open (3.3l engine). I also thought about hill climbs but we don't have hills in Michigan either sad smiley

about advantages...fast? quick? reliable? Easy? add "practical". You can haul sooo much stuff in the rear with the interior gutted.

Any other questions let me know.

Yeah, NH emissions is a "visual inspection" on all cars and plug into OBD2 port for the 96+ stuff (or is it 95? I can't remember). That's it. 94 Impreza with a JDM STi swap, no problem, a 96 and you're boned.

Generally (thread hi-jack) OBD11 emissions are fouled with a code clear. The scanners show that the self tests have been wiped out and are not present otherwise known as incomplete monitors. Usually an automatic fail I've been told.

You know, it trailers very well. Pretty light too. You don't have to drive it on the street.

That is true if you just reset the battery. As a summer job in college i worked at a pontiac dealership. When the battery was disconnected during repair work then needed to go through emissions, I would have to take the car and drive around for 30 minutes, so all the tests could be run etc etc. Disconnecting the battery is pretty much the same as what one of those little basic tuners do.

However with the advanced tuning software like HPtuners, EFIlive, i'm sure theres more; you can just shut certain CEL/MILS off completely. The ECU is reflashed thinks everything is run and running perfectly.

Visual test, well they do make fake bolt on cats winking smiley Technically we have visual checks here as well, but if it passes the Computer test, most shops dont even look.

Here's an example from HPtuners, you can shut off certain codes and leave others. Pretty much do whatever you want.
