John,

Throw up a link or one of your cryptic sketches (with some dimensions) of the Bilstein shock you want Al to use on the back of his volvo. I started making a model of it but I want to leave enough room. Volvo pervs await your response.

Well, what is it? Just a 7100 Series off-road shock? At least give me a part number. I've got 3 more hours to waste before UPS shows and I get the new tool changer motor for the mill...then progress will be a bit slower.

B46-1103
Same M 52 x 2 threads as your strut tubes
26.65" extended
17.66" collapsed

Spring OD as per your rears.
The upper eyelet is extended about 1.5" from eyelet center down to top of spring hat

John,

Can you measure the one you have there and give me the AA thru DD dimensions?

My mill is still broken and I'm bored again. When the tool changer motor committed hari kari it also took out some obscure Fuji contactor of which there are 3 in the country :-( Waiting for the brown truck tomorrow morning. On the up side I've got a really clean design for the turret.

AA=1" BUT, that end is going down, not up in the tower
BB=3.5" typical spring OD, need clearnce for swing during arc suggest min 5"
CC=1.215"
"A-A" on the extended eyelet is 1.940" and an additional 1.090" to bottom of spring seat

We want the extended eyelet up to help mnove the spring seat and spring away from tower and inner wheel well.

And Tim.
Thanks.
John

This is a cut to fit version until I get to measure a car directly. Then I'll profile the open side of the "D" to match the car. Is this what you were thinking of? I made it light (4.2lb total and everything is 0.075" thick except the little purple reinforcing washers) so it's only going to work in cars that have the cage land on the top rectangular flat.

I'm not certain this is entirely suitable to the turbobricks/rally tractor set. I just went light and cheap to make for the first round. Suggestions, witty comments, and sarcasm are invited.

dang, thanks yous guys. I'm starting to have that scary feeling that Vito Corleone is doing me a favor.

So it looks like I can bring the car down from davis sometime early next week. I have access to another 240 tub (hull ?) and a taken apart rear susp'n if I can provide any measurements or pictures.

It's COPIED from an Xratty, no need!

But It'll be nice if we can use them in a BMW or a RX7 or a Toiletta Commodah etc.
I's gonna have to write up some instructions it looks like.

How about an uber sexy tapered version for more clearance and "whiter whites"...I also made the mounting bolt another 1/2" wider.

I look s like it's going to suck mounting these up under the car. Trying to get all the spacers/shock eye/bolt to line up at once will be hard. Can we get a bigger bearing bore on them? Then we could use shouldered spacers that will stay attached to the spherical bearing while you fish the bolt thru.

Hey Tim the top width is carved in stone. The install is easy as pie thanks to ME smiling smiley recognising the beauty of Ford's 909 spacers.
See the chamfer on the belled out major diameter--which gives a nice big register?

If the bearings isn't lined up, it hits the chamfer and straightens itself out like magic.
This is essentially a Sierra tower and install is a zip, bang, boom.
So that distance I gave was my "606" Stainless copies of Fords 909 cad plated steel parts.

The photo shows the lower spacers with the long one used on inboard side to move the shock away from the body a bit.

for those that want to attach the cages,
also picture moving the top plate (green) around until shock clearance is adequate, then tracing from underneath and cutting.
also good for folks without a brake.
red .75"OD .5"ID busing slides to pinch shock.
