funny that ralli-spec has anti marketing on their center diff page, but if you read carefuly they do agree with rally anarchy
http://www.rallispec.com/dif_gls_rst1215_t.html

Funny that Rallispec has achieved nowhere near the results that Dave Clark assisted machinery or Chris Martin has.
I've heard more "sage" advice on things like car settings and setup from solid middle of the pack competitors than anything.

I Dunno how you do this stay home dad thing. I've spent more time on the Internet this morning than the last three weeks combined... I'll have plenty of sage advice by the end of the day.

funny, i'm a solid mid pack driver . but i don't think i have any sage advice just yet .

although i guess i would tell people to ask here, and that would be pretty good, so wow i just needlessly proved your own point to you.

I don't. About the only time I really have to do stuff on computer is when I'm at my part time 20 hour per week desk job. But leaving this job August 15th to focus on entrepreneur and family stuff so my days as an internet specialist may be waning.

I'm not even talking internet advice or Dave at Rallispec directly. I hear advice given to newbs on alignment settings and car setups and such all the time. And then I talk to someone who says they weren't happy with their tires and turns out they ran all of Rally Idaho with 32 psi cold pressures. I felt like I let him down since I was there at the event. That's why we should all stay in one hotel and service parks that are super spread out suck.

I agree with that. I try to tell people the settings i'm using (even if they aren't the gold standard) at least if the person asking has no clue what so ever.

now if only there was a forum with this much helpful info on marriage... lol

There is. It's called, "yes dear", foot massages, and late night blizzard runs.

Ask and you shall receive,

but you'll have to sit and read:

2 books---rememeber books way back? Yeah those little rectanular things with stuff called "pages"---or leaves..
1) "You Just Don't Understand--Men and women in Conversation" ---by Dr. Deborah Tannen
http://www.amazon.com/You-Just-Dont-Understand-Conversation/dp/0060959622

and 2)

"Families and How to Survive Them"

Yes, that John Cleese...

Read them with wifey dearest..Discuss the ideas..Dialog..that's the key

The 20k center diff makes these cars totally different animals.

I ran a 20kg center, mechanical rear lsd and a light clutch pack front lsd when I ran a 5 spd. All the way from a 2.5rs motor to an open motor.

The tight center will make the car feel very "tight" in parking lots and services. It will like it best when you can chuck it in like you really mean it. But if you want to idle around turns, go right ahead.

Having said this, as someone suggested finding a jdm 5 spd with dccd, may be a cost effective option. A nice sti 5spd with dccd and 4.44 gears is nice behind an RS motor. Do make sure to factor into this equation that you will need a good dccd controller ($300-500), and a new clutch/flywheel setup for the push clutch turbo cars use.

Having said all that, a welded center is also just fine on gravel, but will like you driving it harder and will not be that much fun on snow/ice

Oh and also remember a big reason the Sti will step out and make you smile is the jam it makes... You do have to break traction to make the thing slide!

I think it's "Tits, Tires, or an address, you'll have trouble with it..."

confused smileyconfused smileyconfused smiley what huh?

Yes i get the "have to break traction" to make it slide. With all of my cars I'm able to
pendulum / feint drift
scandy flick (sort of the same thing)
weight transfer drift .

But my STI can do a pure throttle drift with zero setup, and I'm way more able to modulate my drift angle , and "line" with my STI. in my rally car , i can't do a pure throttle drift. and i an much more limited in changing the drift angle, if i left off the gas it straights out. stand on the gas it holds the angle but doesn't increase like it does in my STI.

not sure how much of that is due to power differences, and how much of that is due to the diff setup. both are very different.

a stock STI should have 225 WHP , (which i am)
my rally car has 125 whp . ... thought drifting should be more about TQ than HP right?

maybe i've just re-confused myself lol
