Dave, tell him power is divided tween all 4 wheels, but more important tell him how everything Australian has to be run thru an exchange rate filter. So 275bhp at the wheels times (current exchange rate)= real world bhp Sorta like Calgary BHP, remember everything was always 50-75 bhp more in Canada? G5 is open as open gets. More open than Open. Just gotta run 2wd. Did you order wheels without knowing brake clearance? I ask wheel manufacturers for a template and most have been good about supplying one for me to check brake clearance. The ones that can't, I don't deal with. Don't just order wheels and then "space" them if they don't fit your brakes.
Verify brake clearance before you order them. Follow these guys' recommendation and use the narrow wheels. You'll be slower on the wider ones. Get a nice big long formaguage http://www.mclendons.com/item.asp?sku=11072560 and capture the contour of the rotor hat along with the caliper. Trace it on a piece of posterboard and cut out the contour. Have the wheel company email you or fax you the section of the backside of the wheel you are looking at in the desired offset. (Make sure they either put grid lines on the drawing or put a scale in both X and Y. Sometimes faxes don't transmit at 1:1 in both directions and who knows what the scale of a Jpeg might be if they email it.) Print out the wheel section making sure it's at 1:1 scale and test fit your brake section. Save your brake template in case you see some wheels for sale and you want to check to see if your brakes will clear. Lurch Eric Burmeister The west coast...of Michigan |

Yeah I meant PGT. I haven't ordered anything yet. I'm consulting you guys with more experience first. I built my brake upgrade around the current wheels I have. Which I'm going to keep for tarmac events. They'll have less clearance than true motorsports wheels which are designed for brake clearance from what I've seen. Comparing my brake setup to Tim Taylors setup for example. He got away with running considerably less spacer than me. with 15x6 et~38 TH3 compomotives. 15x6 with 14/62 looks like a good setup. I always forget the > conversion for that. I think it follows exchange rate but the base line is just like miles to km: 1 real hp= 1.6 devalued hp or 0.62 real per "other" bhp. What was the supposed wicked L20B which Nissan themselves gave up on in like 1975 and did a twin can 4 valve thing that became FJ20, and that only gave them 175bhp while up in Calgary they had 230bhp with a head skim and a reground cam.... I have run with as little as 0.5mm clearance... well tell the first few turns where the wheel flexes a bit and removed the extra material from one of the surfaces to get it out to about 1mm.
I found the 14-62-15 a very good tire on the 323 GTX and I never had anywhere near that much power in mine at 21psi of boost but it was a 1.6L and the gear box was the limiting factor at the end of the day anyway. I think I did in 3 of them. I would look long and hard at some new Mazdog/ford stuff to see if I can find a gear box that could be made to fit... D In the long run reality always wins. |

Since Jay is ignoring me ![]() I'll quote him from another forum. "Your GTX prolly ran michelin 14-62-15's, and those will work, but you should have enough room under the prot's coachwork for larger tires. I used BFG's equivalent to the mich. 16-52's, and am now getting rid of all my small michelins. Tons more grip." The BG chassis got more room or sumptin? Michael LeCompte |
