Ah yes, remember it well. My Ascona competed in that rally (before I owned it.) I serviced for JV in his SAAB 96 with my Chevy Blazer that had flames painted on the hood. The Peugeot mechanics got a kick out of that. We had spare tires and spare fenders strapped to the roof. John broke the ring and pinion on the John's River Lodge stage and I remember waiting out there for hours as he went and got a tow truck.

I remember following the dirs to a night service area in the middle of nowhere, deserted cept for one or two other speccies. Utter silence. Then a big freakin semi pulled in, then another and another till the lot was fulla service rigs. Then the ungodly noise of the killer B's pulling in, we watched a Lancia get a tranny swap done in like 15 min, then the cars pulled out, the gensets shut down, the awnings pulled in, and the trucks pulled out, a deserted lot, utter silence, and a few spectators saying holy crap what the hell was that....

I remember Jura and Marko having a big animated discution at a stage start in Finish - no idea what they were saying.

Also remember in the dark near tacoma stage 1... oh boy I miss them GpB cars - real loud, real fast and sideways like you can not belive.

In the long run reality always wins.
