Rally Car:
Started a Golf... Never Finished It

Re: celica

well I didn't want to hijack the thread too much, but fuck it - Anders is joining in and this is anarchy right?

But I didn't place a stupid check in "keep a copy in my sent items" and I'm too lazy to type it all up again...

Edit: Tom was nice enough to reply so here's the list for all to see

- quickener is in. Feels real nice so far.
- Car is on its side right now as I'm drilling out the lame captured nuts for the subframe mounts. Putting in some thick DOM tubing that will be tapped and in double shear. Also finishing the stitch welds on the bottom.
- Some nice new Sabelt seats showed up the other day. Fit like a glove
- Found a low mileage ABF and decided to throw on some properly sized dual carbs. Will probably EFI it down the road. But this is cheaper for me at this point.
- Got an O2A and a 4.24 R&P waiting to be mated. Still deciding on which LSD (bildon vs kaaz).
- I'm going to try plating some A-arms first- see how those go.
- Got Burmeister camber plates
- Going to get some JVL suspenders... whenever I get off my lazy ass and get over there
- I've got a plan for the rear beam.... but I've got to make it go around the stock gas tank which is going to be a PAIN. stupid fuel cell rules piss me off
- I'm going to try some "straight" tie rods off of a scirocco and see how those hold up. Eventually going to be some heavy duty heim joint rod ends.
- Got my hands on an interesting brake setup. Girling 60 calipers with corrado 11" rotors up front. Then took a stock rear rotor, cut them down to use as hubs, then mount some 11" rotors in the rear with MK4 calipers.

Certainly explains how Colin could seemingly go from full lock one way to the other and back in the same short corner.

What it doesn't explain is how so much steering motion seemingly made no difference in the attitude of the car smiling smiley So maybe they had the super fast steering because that car *needed* it.

I was thinking about doing something similar for rallycross - 2.2 turns lock to lock Cadillac STS steering rack + 1.5:1 steering quickener = just about 1.5 turns, coincidentally enough. And a *big* cooler.

Then I decided to quit screwing around with front wheel drive.

Look at the profile, shows a LLU.edu address
One second on Google:
Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center
Loma Linda University (LLU)is a Seventh-day Adventist educational health-sciences institution located in Southern California.

Might answer maybe.

If we can finger out how to make all kinds of dirt cheap yet Soooper Bitch goodies, then fingering out addresses is easy.

Yep, home sweet home. At least for the next four months. Then I'm headed back to washington.

Update on the celica: This weekend I'm driving over to take a look.
If I like what I see, I'll bring it home with me. (to the afore mentioned coordinates)

Jason- Thanks for buying the camber plates. The whole Corrado upright with stock brakes is a pretty good solution, too. I went from some worn out AP 4 pots to the stock Corrado setup on my Golf and never looked back.

John, I heard that AMA enduros are ALL run like qualifiers now. Can't be early. You just burn the checks and get your time. A crusty old enduro buddy told me this...haven't checked it out with AMA. Takes some of the pacing skill out, but makes it more like rally.

I agree with everything Tom B said. Looks like Jason is on his way.
