What is a Fiat BTM?

Besides being the car that Jerry Seinfeld rolled after his brakes failed. I'm glad he's ok, but I don't give a rat's ass that there are 14 gazillion web pages and media outlets reporting on it. I want to know what the car is. When I google it, all I get is rehashed accounts of the accident.

It would appear that no one else knows for sure either. It may be an error in reporting as FIAT apparently never made a vehicle called BTM.

I have gone through every Fiat production book I have. One shows every regular production car they've ever made. Nothing about a BTM. Now, Jerry has more $$ than jokes so it's possible he has a one-off car. Fiat did alot of that with various coachbuilders. If the year is correct, I'm betting it was a Fiat 500 or and Abarth variant. Some have mentioned an 850 which would make sense. The brakes and rear suspension were terrible on those cars and they have rolled at autocross events.

The other possibility is that the news agency reported the car name wrong. While driving my Lancia I once recieved a speeding ticket in a Toyota Celica (only b/c the officer has no idea what it was). In short, i have no idea! smiling smiley

This article states that Seinfeld crashed in a 1967 Fiat 500.

I'm going to take a wild guess and suggest that BTM means "Berlina Transformabile", or maybe "Bianchina Transformabile", which would be the roll-top (get it?) version of a 500 or 600 or Autobianchi.
