What are the differences between

A. A Full on Rally

B. A Rally Sprint

C. A Hill Climb

I'm pretty sure I know what a rallycross is, gymkhana on an un-improved surface.

Thanks.

A full on performance rally requires full cages, driving suits, etc. No longer sanctioned by SCCA but by NRS and Rally America and Rally New York. It comes in various total lengths.

Rally Sprint is a name that is used for short Coef. 1 rallies. It is also a name for an event that is a step up from RallyCross in the SCCA. It has not been developed yet to the point that any event has actually taken place IIRC. For practical purposes, a rally sprint can be considered the same as a full rally with the same required safety rules. There may be an exception for allowing a competitor to run without a co-driver.

Hill climbs are short events with varying safety rules as determined by the sanctioning organization. Co-drivers may or may not be required or even allowed. SCCA organizes hill climbs with a specific set of rules. Colorado has a nice series of hill climbs.

Hope that helps a little.

Colorado's held two rallysprints under the SCCA Rallysprint idea. Basically like a bigger version of a rallycross with caged car requirements and higher rates of speed than rallycross and some jumping. They were fun and cheap, but we really only have two venues and no one motivated enough to put the effort into them.

The Colorado hill climb rally rules say, car must be built to NASA or RA technical and safety rules, so they're all stage rally legal cars. Same piece of 3-6 mile road is run over the weekend. Saturday is practice and we get 3-5 runs on the road. Sunday is race day and you get two runs, and the fastest one is your final time.

Stage rally is 60-100 competitive miles of closed forest/logging/unimproved county roads that your final time is the cumulative time over the whole weekend.

The sprints I ran had things that could hurt you, like trees, etc. Where a rallycross does not.

Hillclimbs however, vary by location and club. The hillclimbs out here are tarmac and run by local autocross clubs, there are three in Oregon throughout the summer and they do not require a cage, some of them don't even require a suit, very inexpensive.

n00b.

The CRS has been running RallySprints for years.
There haven't been any on the calendar for the last few
years, but they used to have a championship for them (and
the rules for them are still listed in the rulebook).

Here're the 2004 results just to prove I'm not full of it:

Edit: oh you're talking about the euro-style multiple-car-at-a-time
thing that never got going. I really wish the SCCA wouldn't hijack
names that already have commonly-accepted meanings.

There've been Rally Crosses North of Albany, NY
I have the dented doors to show for it.

I've won Rally Sprints in Virginia (Oakland Acres) and Kearney's Rally Village.
Both were fun (always fun when you win), relevant and demanding.
Much more affordable than a "real" rally for one good reason:
No Transits!
So no plates and registration is needed so no car insurance needed.
also 2/3 of the typical rally distance and boring time driving around is saved for visiting and hanging out with people more fun than your co-driver and burning gas.
