Rally Car:
too rich for my blood, share a LeMons car

no motivation for Maine
July 04, 2008 09:51PM
New England Forest Rally is next week. I've been to every Maine event since Winter 1997. It's about 3 hours away, so it's the "home" national event.

But I have no real desire to go. None of the usual suspects (close friends) are running, and most of them have work commitments that keep them away Friday as well. And the event just isn't as much fun to me anymore. I even have this ham radio in the car so I could be a "more effective/valuable" worker, and I can't get excited to go up there and get a sunburn and eaten by skeeters for 10 hours.

I think I'd rather stay at home and run the chainsaw, take my son to the playground or the grandparents' house, or fix my street XR4.

I got a big dose of rally fun at Baie last weekend, I think this weekend will just be a downer after that.

Is something wrong with me? Do I need some happy pills?

Maybe I'll just take the family up Saturday and spectate a little, then spend Sunday playing tourist in the White Mountains.

Andrew, not going to Maine either I see. Its kind of sad, I used to get so jazzed about the trip, the camping, the fast cars, and the woods. Now it just seems so far away.

Enjoy your weekend what ever you do.

We'll see how the end of the week shapes up. It's not looking good, in fact it's looking BAD. Kara has a pile of work in her inbox, most of which needs to be done by Monday or Tuesday. I don't see it getting anywhere near empty by Friday evening.

Avery (my son) has already been to two rallies, but it was a LOT easier to deal with him before he could walk. Now he's into EVERYTHING and requires a lot of energy to keep him out of trouble.

I could try to take him with me, but a day trip would mean six hours in the car, that won't fly with the little guy, and he's DONE for the day by 7 pm, so spending the night isn't so hot, either.

Oh, well. I guess I had to break the decade-long streak at some point. I've got Defi on the schedule already, though!
