I've seen one (Subaru) dropped into a standard-type Rubbermaid tote and shipped that way. Pehaps some cardboard to reinforce the sides and prevent penetration
(mostly).

I was just going to sat that.

I've had a few transmissions shipped to me that way. Rubbermaid tote from wal-mart, with some cardboard on the bottom, double-bagged in garbage bags. Holes punched around the lip and zip-tied shut.

Adding to the great ideas above - I shipped a transmission in a good cardboard box, wrapped it up in shrink wrap, and supported it somewhat in the middle of the box with blocks. Then used construction foam in a can to fill the voids, and wrapped it up as it was expanding.

After the foam finished - you could shake that sucker all you wanted - it was solid.

Shipped it UPS ground from Canada to the US and my bro said it was perfectly fine. Just cut the box in half and the foam broke off nicely.

We came to the conclusion that it's better to keep trannys in sealed tupperware containers.

Ok so Joe got back to me and picked up the gearbox from his old house and now has it in his possession.

It's in a rubbermaid container with plywood on the bottom and cardboard on the sides.

Now... Here's the bitch. The fucker weighs in at a stout 175lbs.

Fex ex's limit is 150lbs. Cost bout $90, Freight is over $300

I thought about removing the transfer carrier assembly to save weight, but you can't without disassembling the entire gearbox. Not going to happen.

So I'm looking for ideas. The greyhound situation doesn't sound too bad... I'll have to see if they have a weight limit.

Otherwise I'm kinda doubting that removing the stub shafts, mounting brackets, sensors, or anything else easy to get at is going to save us 30lbs.

If Joe fills the rubbermaid container with helium will that make it lighter?

Thoughts from you guys?

Go greyhound.

Strap a set of sunglasses and a fake beard on it and stuff it in a seat. It'll probably look more normal than most of the people you see on a greyhound bus. And smell way better too. Gear oil smells way better than week old urine.
