Let me know ASAP if you are looking for a navigator, so that I can arrange the time to come out.

I didn't feel comfortable leaving one parent with him at spectator all day by themselves. The original idea was that since we were doing three stages that the parents could switch off taking care of him and working. My stage captain did finally say we could switch to atc, but that was after the kid had already been told that they couldn't work and that him and his parents would go watch at spectator. And you don't tell a 6 year old they can watch the bikes race and then go back on it. If we'd told him from the beginning that he'd be at atc and explained it, that'd have been fine. I guess I don't see how flying finish would be any more dangerous than being at a spectator area. In fact, seems to me it'd be safer because there's fewer people. ATC, although not dangerous imo either, I'd still feel someplace like roadblock or flying finish would be the safest, fewest amount of people around. |

I heard something about a FF which was very tight or something. I just caught the end of something at driver's meeting. I'm not familiar with the stages at MH so I don't know if that is the one you were dealing with or not.
Anyhow, seems like I've always seen kids at a control sooner or later. Anyone else ever see kids? So does the same people want to work DooWops ? Gene |

Totally user friendly. Yes, the same people want to work doo wops, it's parents, munckin and their 15 year old daughter (the daughter and her friend worked FF with me at Hood). And yeah, there's always been kids around before (not sure about hood), I wonder if it's just insurance paranoia, seems that it's seeping into everything anymore |

I "worked" a start control when I was about 8 for my first rally expriance.
I co-drove a fast sweep car at the age of 12 or so at Tour De Forrest. Insurance was a bit different in 1982 however. I will be down there in some form or another. Derek In the long run reality always wins. |

I'm sure my codriver will happily come do this event. Probably should get a speedo and rally computer in the car since a) I don't know every transit like I did at Colorado and b) if I recall this is a route book only event. AKA how much in car can I watch before.
Thanks to everyone who's offered places to stay, storage space, service vehicles, crew, etc. The PNW rocks! Now we just have to hope for a good non-snowing weekend for me to drive the car out there in February. If I work it out right I might be able to get work to pay for my flight. Drive to Portland, fly to St. Louis for opthalmology meeting, fly back to Denver. If the meetings are on Monday I could pull that off. Then fly out a week or two later for the rally! Brilliant plan in my opinion. Grant Hughes |

And yeah, I know insurance was a bit different. I understand the need for insurance and safety and all that, but seems to me that it just gets taken a bit too far sometimes and if the paranoia continues pretty soon we won't have rally and workers for rally at all. "oh, I'm sorry, your eyesight isn't good enough, you can't work unless you are naturally 20/20 vision" "oh, I'm sorry, you have a broken pinky, you can't work" "oh, I'm sorry, your wife is blind and has a seeing eye dog, she'll have to stay at home, we can't risk her being near the course even if you're going to be there, you'll have to come by yourself". > See me go at: > www.11tenths.com > In the long run Reality always wins. |

Merrilee,
No kids is not a NRS West policy. NRS would ask that kids be with parents, waivered and not in advance or sweep. With that in mind NRS also doesn't micro-manage events. The organizer or stage captain has the last call on this kind of stuff. Good news is that DooWops doesn't have a problem with it. I trust your judgement. We would be pleased to have you work our event and welcome your friends and kids. FF , MTC, whatever you choose. Grant, Route book only, most all the stages are on Youtube somewhere. The transits aren't particularly tricky, mostly main highways. |
