Sequential Shifters and Dog Boxes

Are true sequential gearboxes the equivalent of a standard gearbox switched to Dog engagement with a sequential shifting mechanism.

This is one for STi.

I've seen others that are just a shifter mechanism that replicate the H pattern movement but the input from the driver is just forward and back.

Motorcycle gearboxes seem to operate much in the same way a Dogbox does.

It's just that someday I'd like to have a car with a sequential gearbox without spending 30 grand on one. the only option I see as of right now is using a hayabusa engine and transmission with a quaife unit to send the power to the wheels.

Any helpful input and info on the matter is appreciated

No. Those adapters are just an extra mechanical box put in line to replicate the H pattern from a sequential input. They are an extra mess of monkey motion in your shift linkage to still operate an H pattern box.

Sequential boxes use a round shift drum with grooves to move the forks back and forth IDENTICAL to a motorcycle.

The inside of my Xtrac looks like a scaled up identical version of my KTM gearbox. Except with reverse.

Xtrac?! hold on while I get a mop to clean up the drool. I think I remember some sort of sequential shifter on Bill Maliks uber-volvo. Anyone set me straight on this one?

Indentical to most gearboxes.
CZ 4 speed used a flat plate with the shift fork pathways milled into it and stirred the gears that way.
Much more compact than making room for a drum.

Yep, you're right. But for the problems he's had with that thing and the cost to repair it (especially the freight), you could just go ahead and buy a bunch of new T5's and maybe put dogbox kits in some of them and use a new one every race for a season.

Although Bill is notoriously tough on gearboxes, so maybe that ain't fair.

I see that Sadev and Hewland gearboxes are down to what I would call affordable range.

In the long run reality always wins.
