Last year there was a two day national "challenge" (for what its worth). No spectators but there is plenty of room and an excellent vantage point for interested motorsports enthusiasts :-p The hope is for snow but last year the entire place was a sheet of ice. Studs are allowed. It's one of the more expensive NER sites but a hot lunch is usually provided with the entry fee. -KTurner Stomp down on the exhilarator and hold on to the wheel. |

Wow, it is still quite cheap! even at 70$ for non members!
There are 3 here this winter, 210$ per event! (yes, that is per event!) 500$ for 3 events if you registered over 2 months in advance... I wanted to see how it is to drive a RWD (my "new" Volvo), but for that price I'll go to a friend cottage where we can have fun on the lake and have one hell of a nice diner for everybody for less than 1 entry fee. How much do your rallies cost? That seems to be approaching the cost of a one day rally. |

WHAT???? To dodge a few traffic cones on some unnatural course on a dirt lot? 210 bucks??? Hey everybody...you can come to my track behind my pole barn and run around on the rev limiter in 1st gear if you like. You can put numbers on the side of your street car with magnets and tell your coworkers that you are "going racing" this weekend. I'll even make some rules. Fastest time wins and you have to wear a helmet. Preferably, not a football helmet. There's no cones, but you have to weave your way around the MX jumps, and that constitutes the track. It does create a full circuit. Just sign a waiver and pay me "only" a hundred bucks and have at it. I'll even give you a trophy if you win...you want imported or domestic beer? Fercryinoutloud. $210? For "rallycross??" (And by "rallycross," of course I don't mean "rallycross," but rather the perversion of gymkhana on dirt that stole the name from the proper sport of racing rally-inspired tin tops wheel to wheel in yurrip.) When the SCCA rolled out their "weekend membership" crap, our region just reduced entrance fees by a like amount so non members end up paying the same price as before. ($40 for non members) Then again, we're not New England Spectating is always free, and usually anybody is willing to give rides to non-competitors. You have to sign the same waiver whether you spectate or compete, and most regions have a policy of permitting spectators to ride along, because 9 out of 10 times, they come back with money in hand. I do not want to think about what my cost per "stage mile" works out to be... given that I am driving an 18mpg car 150-250 miles and get maybe ten runs on a 1/4 - 1/2 mile long course... That is what masks and air filters are for. I can't see needing an EMT, although the fast line through one of our last courses involved pushing the nose through a tree at about 45. If you didn't get that close, you'd slide too wide on the elevation change/off-camber on the outside of the corner and lose a bunch of speed. Glad nobody else figured that out. Sadly we don't run there anymore. I'm glad I don't run where some of you guys run... we like tight courses but I've needed third gear a few times. I used to do rally sprint for less than that around 2001. It's not the typical 1st gear parking lot ride tough. It's more like "how fast can you go on glare ice on a track". I used 3rd gear a few time in the Laser, but I doubt I would need it in a 2WD car without studs (and they are forbidden). a Regional 1 day event cost about 350$, so it's comming close (too close for my taste) but still a bit less expensive.
