Meh - pull the Subaru contingency money and most of the problems will probably go away....I'm glad I didn't go, would have come to blows if I was missing runs/etc after driving 700+ miles so some shitdick could play games at a rallycross.

Turbo cars regularly lose to non turbo cars at rallycrosses.

Even on OVR's long wide-open sweeping courses, it's usually a N/A Subaru that takes overall. Sometimes it's a lowly stock class 2.2l Outback Sport.

I can't imagine a rallycross course that meets the GCR's recommendations that WOULD favor a turbo car.
And, I would imagine that anything calling itself a National should abide by the GCR, which is the lowest common denominator for the sanctioning body.

If the course was dangerous or faulty, it should have been addressed at the BEGINNING, before cars were running.

SNAFU...

As a competition to judge the relitive skills of drivers; rally-x completely fails mainly because the condition of the cource changes dramatically from run ro run. Can you say water truck?

As an enjoiable & accessable way to have a good time in cars, it does well.

That SCCA thinks there should be a national champoinship for this crap shoot - well that is just wrong.

I would toss out the unsportsman like claim on the grounds it is not a sport!

Wow. What a cluster. I just don't understand sometimes.

Interestingly, we were going to get the newest member of our "team" to go up and run the event, but the following happened.

I talked to SCCA national about running, since I didn't have the requisite "regional" events (3 required) or a run at the national championship last year.

I was told that since I did stage events they were okay with it, and that the prerequisite really was having at least competed in one rallycross event. I told them that I had and reminded them that I was instrumental in starting and running Chattanooga's rallycross program, as well as running Memphis' solo program for a number of years.

On this representation, I took Claudia up to an event on October 5th in Nashville (2 hours away) so that she could qualify to run the national championship. I then call SCCA for her, and was told that she couldn't compete because she did not have enough experience.

I told Claudia, and she was okay, having been regaled with stories of the SCCA prior to all this happening.

I talked to another team member about running it, and his observation was why pay $150 in entry and hotel rooms for a long weekend for 15 minutes of seat time, when we could go up to the forest or on Claudia's acreage and get the same amount of seat time in 15 minutes.

So we didn't go.

Plus ca change, Plus ca meme chose.

WTF? that's messed up.

I'm glad we run all our events through NASA.

That was some amusing reading!

SCCA seems to be the same game as in the past!

Make it such a piss-off that anyone who really wants to compete on a semi-level playing ground will go and SOLO.

I don't miss SCCA. Not even a little.

Derek you hit the nail square on the head in calling 'Rallycross' a non-sport.

Yeah, it was hard not to start swinging at times. Even getting there was hard.

I was there in the M2 Neon. The TN guys really were great, but MU's behavior was beyond the pale. His unsportsmanlike conduct wasn't solely limited to his selfish course change, either. He was openly hostile to everyone around him, even shouting down questions from competitors when the event descended into chaos. A terrible representative for the SCCA. I have no respect for him any longer.

In defense of the SCCA, local events are usually great. Most of the regions I have visited are sincerely devoted to an enjoyable, fair competition. The Colorado guys are great, the Tennessee guys are great, We're great (Nebraska!). That said, every National SCCA event I have attended turns into a massive Charlie Foxtrot. It's just part of the 'value-add' that National seems to bring.

Hemmingway would have said; "It's a childrens game played by men"

I can't be around people who think rallycross is anything more than playing in the dirt for an afternoon.

A month or two ago, I found I actually had a free day with a rallycross within 1.5 hours of home. My ever-so-sweet (and slow) 2003 Legacy wagon has new brakes and tie rod ends, and is paid off and on its way to beater status at 114k miles, so I'm thinking, why not?

Short notice, non-SCCA member entry fee...$70. Oops, did that entry sheet just land in the woodstove?

Seventy bucks for a rallycross? Wow... that must work out to something like $50/mile?

$5/stage mile is too much for a rally.

What makes rallycross worth so much? Oh yeah... SCCA. I get it.

Rallycross in Connecticut?
November 09, 2008 06:29PM
Somewhere in this thread a day or two ago I noticed something
about "Stafford Springs". Is that Stafford Springs, Connecticut? If so, when?

I'm about 20 minutes away, so ought to go check it out for fun.... As long as there is no spectator charge.

I'm not really sure why non-member costs at an event would be $70, our non-member event cost is $30. But, we're just a bunch of guys driving around on wet grass in 1st gear. Maybe this was different?

And spectating is free, you just have to sign a waiver, in case one of us loses control of a 25mph car and can't stop in time winking smiley

depends on the event, but SCCA now 'requires' you to be a member, even if its just a 'temporary weekend membership'.....(between $5 to $15, depending on the region).

In NorCal we run events for $50.....$45 if you pre-register online, $40 if you pre-reg AND have a NASA or CRS membership.

Next year we may have to up our prices though....venues are now upwards of $700 a day. We had to cancel the 2nd of two events at one venue because they raised the price on us from $700 to $1000/day. WTF? ITS A DIRT LOT...

plus in Cali, we need water trucks for the dust at almost every event....skip loaders to fix what we rut up, and at some venues....an EMT on staff. (in case one of us goes off course at 25mph and can't stop winking smiley )

and yes, spectating is free...maybe if we ever have more than 10 people spectating I'd consider putting a guy at the door to collect cover chargesmiling smiley
