If'n I was wanting to go FWD, what cars are out there that have options for good FD, LSD and easy options for brakes, suspension. Suspension would have to be JVAB stuff.

Yeah I got interested in Honda stuff since Dave Coleman pointed out the quite adequete suspension travel. Combined with the light weight chasis and the CRAZY HP/L available it sounds like a winner. On paper atleast. Why such late model stuff Paulinho?

Joking about good FWD being an oxymoron.

Anyhow, I'd agree with Paul about newer Civics. If I were going for a FWD car I'd go for a Civic. Easy and cheap power and lots of rally specific parts available. That or a Mazda 3 as there's contingency money from Mazda and the 2.3 Duratec is well developed and can make lots of power too.

OK John, I'll bite. How much for a SAAB 96 gearset? Do they even still make them anymore?

The only reason I didn't say Dodge Omni is because they are actually getting kind of scarce and there never was a lot of aftermarket support. But they are pretty good out of the box and since there are no $5000 gearsets made for them you don't have to buy them, right?

If you wanna go FWD, don't just pick cars outta thin air.

John's concern about gears is real.

In my opinion, your first choice is either (a) go turbo G5 so you have enough torque to bridge the gaps in the stock tranny and, hence, choose a car with a very DURABLE transmission, or (b) scour the earth for a real competition gearbox or gearset that someone's getting rid of and then find a suitable car that it fits in.

Yeah, Civics are light and have lots of hp parts availability. Folks are figuring out how to put adequate suspension on just about anything now. But if it's a screamer with no tork and you can't find a gearbox for it, it'll suck the funness right out.

Sundelin was talking on the other forum about Focii with Duratecs and MTX75s or something. I dunno what's available for that gearbox, but with a turbo, you'd just have to make sure it holds together.

The SRT4s are fast. The wheelbase is akin to a minivan, but Shepherd sure can pedal one.

Not sure how TimO's Mazdaspeed3 project is coming along.

Part of this depends on your budget, aspirations, and some other things.

If just doing a car to whack out a year so you can get yerself into a Subaru like most people getting into it now, buy a prepped Golf and hit it and sell it.

In my mind, the only FWD car I'd consider building is the one that someone else is willing to pay me to.
