NASA rule changes
November 10, 2008 10:53AM
I was sitting under a tree and I got pooped on.
The poop spelled out a message.
12 fewer pages in the book and
any engine that'll fit without structural changes is OK!

That should start some wheels turning.

Randy, where are these rules posted? Or is this just the secret message you got from the tree?

Damn it. Spent all morning talking about organizing a rally when I could have been finding out some more. Oh well. Birds head south and east when winter comes to the mountains apparently.

Where you said:

Yeah, we decided an engine is an engine, and since putting in a different one doesn't mangle up the integrity of the passenger compartment, who cares where it comes from, for both 2wd and AWD. When you can already put a 3 liter 6 cylinder in a 95 impreza (like I did) and then turbo charge it (which I didn't, but which would be allowed already) or put one of those 444 HP W12 engines into a 1800 pound VW Golf... really, what's the difference?

Mazd-aru, here we come! winking smiley

>So would the new rules allow a car that was previously
>FF to be MR, this isn't clear to me??

Meh, our rules aren't going that route. Last year we added a rule saying an AWD car can become a FWD or RWD. The idea is those modifications can be done without substantially changing the passenger compartment engineering.

Cheers,
Anders

RX-7 V8
November 13, 2008 08:08AM
I was busy this summer so I didn't drive my RX-7 V8 yet this year,
but I warmed it up last week and plan to drive it a little before
winter comes.

This would have been a fun rally car, but the douches running
the SCCA rally show wouldn't allow it. Hell, for that matter they
wouldn't allow Peltor helmets or FIA driving suits either.

The late 90's and early 00's of U.S. rally was ruled by morons.

Rallymoto, now engine swaps? NASA appears to have the pulse of real rally
rather than Rally America's stupid Subaru show.

I think their going the other way on bikes. The first rallymoto event was won with an XR600 with CR500 USD forks and a very healthy desert racing engine. Now they want to keep it more production oriented.
