I call bullshit on JVL's video. Cars are obviously Volvo Original Cup cars, which means that the sampling in the Swedish event is biased toward them.

Take a look at the Group F stats here: http://www.f-cup.fi/tulokset-ja-tilastot/

Very few FWD, but they are VW/Seat or Honda. Very few Volvos - all 240s. Lots of BMWs smiling smiley. No Sierras.

Genosse Herr Advokat,
you can call bullshit all you want, the car I posted was GruppH..
You can find any Swedish event you want and count cars. Last one I looked at out of 97 cars--a small event-- over 30 were various Volvos..a FEW VOC cars, a couple of Appendix K Historic, and a PILE of Grupp H.
Here's one random event just last week:
http://www.motorsport4sale.com/resultat/2013/130824_mjolkpallen.pdf

126 entries
57 Volvos of all sorts from Appendix K 122s to A drivers 2wd
25 of that VOC so 32 not VOC
(You do understand I am "a Ford or Saab guy" dontcha...You realise how it sorta pains me to say "go Volvo" rather than Xratty or Saab dontcha? But its hard for me to not report a trend that has done nothing but grow in the last 20-22 years, in the same time period "my" favorites have faded)

Point was implied that it is within capabilities of half competent garage guys to build a car that goes like that and is affordable and a challenge to guys to find equivalent vids of US FWD Subies or US Sentras or US Fuckus, or US Golves..

We've been over this a thousand times--comparing costs, not of some pile of crap stock thing with some door panels taken off and a Gp2 sticker, but a car that can reliably go like the pretty cars in the vids--drivers aside.

Everything costs money...how much for what is the question PRESUMING---and it is the impossible to quantify presumption---that people want an experience different that just driving down the road to go to the grocery store..

Also appears that a Golf WON an event this year.
Lead for season is Volvo, Volvo, Corolla, MB, Corolla, Starlet, BMW, Starlet, Golf, BMW.

Plenty go fast, the link I posted to whatever Mjolkpallen listed several of the VWs as "kitcars'...kinda like the TTS (Team Toyota Sweden ex Asterhag "Muraren"developed fwd Corollas). Beautiful cars... nothing that a normal broke ass guy here could ever afford, tho.

Ok i am car shopping. as far as plasma cutter and welder got them covered. I am not afraid to chop a few cars into little pices and build one good one out of all the best pieces.

My wife just booked a room for friday saturday and sundy night for the Black river stages.

We will also be at as many of the summit point rally x events as we can make.

thanks for all the help and keep it comming.

i think i am most interested in building my car rather than buying one all ready done but i would buy one if i find a good deal

Which just happen to be in 1st and 2nd place with 2 wins and 2 second places against aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll those other swankier, newer thangs.

I think we have established over the years that out US roads are on average faster road than even "Finnish Grand Prix" roads...
I think we can say it is certainly no dis-advantage in a boring boxy Volvo--or something similar size/engine/price/ease. and flexibility of mods when the time comes.

Lying with incomplete stats again John - last years overall (and that's what counts) had one Volvo in th top ten, at 5th.

Just semantics I guess, but I'll repeat the mantra that the only folks who have gotten pussy in an old Volvo are old hippies - the Bimmer will get you the younger trim.

I clicked your link, nothing opened so I clicked "Geenral" for this year.

This isn't about lying, its about trying to get guys to think about cars which can--IF--- IF they have fun starting out, that they can KEEP---and not piss away thousands in fixed costs for cage/safety/etc---the same car and keep improving the car as they themselves improve--that they can AFFORD to improve it if they so choose.

And something that works good enough that they have enough fun they want tkeep goping when the POS thing breaks.

And of course to have performance potential that is not limited by complete lack of normal rally type junk.

What would you think of this car properly caged and preped in AWD open light. or is open light too high of a class to start out in.

it would be fine but why pay that much for something that needs a cage CUT OUT and redone. Mark P's car would be a better starting point. there are some others floating around too. if you want to run open that's fine, but RA doesn't allow it unless you have prior experience (or are an extreme sports star) NASA is cool with it.

Open LIGHT, is without a turbo which Rally America will let you run in from the start. NASA will let you start in a turbo car. You definitely want to run open or the equivalent 2wd class. It's a lot easier and the classes are more popular.

Also, Mark's car:
http://www.specialstage.com/forums/showthread.php?55729-2000-Subaru-2-5RS-Rally-Car-w-Spares-Trailer-Open-Light

Almost too good to pass up, I'm actually tossing around the idea of buying it myself and selling what I've got now...

Tim.

Mark's car is decently priced considering trailer and dms. I've seen similar spec cars without dms sell for 8-9k.
