Hey, help me get some Rallying going (again) in Alabama... Nov 8-10

Gonna try to start an event as an SCCA touring/slight TSD Road-Rally, with decent rally HQ/ Parke Fermaay y'all / Service area, Paddock, catering, cash for Novice class, Semi-Serious class, and Serious class.

some 'open trainsits'. a loose-surface shakedown, and maybe a dirt-ish press stage, who knows. I'll make it worth the drive.

I will try to build it up to full stage status in the next year or two, adding special stages and the lot at some point, if I can get some interest going... but this time will be everything street-legal from a full Rally car to a couple in a Miata. Run your recce car and receive 10 bucks tow-money! haha.

fun, laid-back, social...

Fun cars, Fun People, Fun Times.

details and supps/ GI's forthcoming....

bring your stage rally car and be a rockstar. ;-)

How Many times do you get to go to the first-annual of an event ? a lot probably haha.

ok, I'm trying down here.... I'm trying. Just come hang out, drive a little, relax, drink beer..

Rental cars are available at the airport. grinning smiley

nice to see that there's still some life left in SCCA road rally. reading their mailing list certainly doesn't give that impression.

fear not Mark, this is just an Evil plan.

this is a , ahem, SCCA SEDIV Road-Rally... first real one done since 2004 IIRC.
know of.... hmmm. .

1.1.A.#1: Thall Shalt not break the law in order to make up time, weather or not that last CAST direction says: CAST 300kph. lol. hmm.

Here's one to knaw on: What if SCCA said 'We fucked up.. we're sorry chickens all up in here in this pumkin patch..." "We want to try to find a way to bring Rallycross up, find something like a RallySprint that NASA is making work (good for them!) .... and maybe find a way back into 5-car heats of RallyCross cars... or hell just find an underwriter that can write a fucking policy, that CAN shield the rest of the club from liability,,, hmmm. Next SCCA convention meeting = boom. hand grenade. boom..

What if SCCA came back ? hmmm. discuss:

______________________

There are no 'SEDIV Road Rally rules that I know of, but if Bob Ricker can't sign off on the course, nobody can. And there will be a SCCA 'Observer' there...

and I have invited Anders Green, JB Niday and the owner of RA.
..... Anders called me back. That's all I'm sayin... could get a call any day thoooo... hm.

Mark, I'll have you down here to calibrate-out my Twinmaster at some point soon. Just come down and hang out if you can. We'll have brats and homebrew. heehee.

THAT is a topic that has come up on the conference call a time or two.....

The consensus is that SCCA will NEVER let it happen on "public" roads again. Although there IS a sort of grassroots movement to adopt something similar to the NRS Rallysprint, sans public thoroughfares.

I will tell you this: it is somewhat of an Uphill Battle against the "Old Timers" and entrenched mentality even as far as it has gotten.

I will do all I can, but the committee is not exactly what it started out as.

Irish drink free after night stages??

... or as long as you can fake an irish accent, just for fun to piss off the limey, crown-licking English Clerk of the Course ?? rofl.

um, maybe not. That could get out of control fast.

anyway, ahem. thanks. If anybody's thinking of coming, I will have a jeering section/full-service parke ferme.

For Charity.

which happens to dirt cheep sanctioning/ins fees from SCCA, < one per year accepted>...
nice. I just saved the event a pile of money..

For me, at least, that would be like an old girlfriend moving in next door. I'd be like "Oh, hey! How's it going? Oh, new job? Moving in here? Cool. See ya around!" and then I'd go back to my wife, child, job, motorcycle, car, and computer. Every so often I'd wave if I was driving in and she was walking her dog.

To phrase with less analogy: It wouldn't change what I'm working on with rally... too busy with what I'm doing already, and enjoying the direction that it's going. smiling smiley It would be nice to have rallies in areas that don't have any currently though.

Cheers,
Anders

Inquiring minds want to know what "public roads" have to do with any issues in the past?

1. Speeds. The theory is that "private" roads will be narrower, less well-maintained, and shorter - keeping speeds down. (that's what I inferred)

2. Control of Access to the events by the public. For some reason, SCCA seems to hate promotion of its events, and wishes that spectators would just stay the hell at home.

I do not agree with them, but that appears to be the reasons for the "holdup".

I'm in no way inferring that Anders, NASA, RA or anybody else is doing anything but totally right, or as bast they can considering the time/help/money/interest available.

SCCA doing CLUBRallies, not PRO-Rallys, would feed everyone.

Here's the way I look at it : Nobody that has INTEREST in rally and just want to TRY it a little, is not going to spend the small fortune that many of have tied up in - tow rig, 50+k in a car worth, on the open market in North America, maybe about 7k if you even could find someone to want it... , jack, stands, compressor, canopy, helmet/hans/gear/shoes/suit/ full cage, FIA seats, belts, spill kit, ad nauseum....

just to try it.

Us (rallyist) to Them (potential rallyist):
"Hey come try my sport/hobby that I love: well, The entry fee for your first Clubrally/Stage-Rally will realisticly and conservatively only be about 25k of car and gear and assesory stuff, plus probably an $800 entry fee...just to do one.
God help you if you really like it and want to do more....
What? ...
My mother is most certainly not. "

Man John, you really captured the problems well in one simple post.
1. The impression that you "have" to have a tow rig and a $25k car (I only want to rally my STI, stomp, stomp, stomp. But there is no way I can afford to rally my STI and be competitive.)
2. Everyone wants to try a little bit of everything. Very few are willing to put in the effort to actually do anything right or enough to become good at it. Rally has a very expensive price to play compared to things that can make you feel even cooler and might actually get you laid.

I think what the SCCA wants to do is a welcome addition if I understand it correctly as being an effort to fill the gap between rallycross and stage rally. As I understand, basically a closed course RallySprint. Kinda the exact thing they've been saying they were going to do since 2004...
