Storage between Rocky and Big White
September 16, 2013 12:16AM
I'm just trying to get a feeling for the level of interest in Okanagan area storage for rally cars and rigs between Rocky (in Invermere BC on Nov. 1&2) and Big White (At Big White Resort, near Kelowna BC, on December 7&8)

We have a few options available but don't want to start making arrangements if there isn't any interest. Both of these events are shaping up to be great events!

Is Big White a National event this year?

No, but that doesn't make it any less of a great I event. (Some say the event would lose some of its character by going national.)
Rocky is a National, however, and I know they are looking at storage options between PFR and their event.(either Invermere or Calgary... Maybe both.)

Oh cool. I just thought I heard that they were trying for national status. I prefer regional events with good local community support to stay regional, that way they aren't as sensitive to national politics. Such as losing the event when Pastrana, Block and crew decide they want the season to end with the X Games and the local event supporters (aka money bags) will not support the event at a smaller scale so voila, 30-40 rallyists left high and dry.

It was observed for national status but fell short on a couple of easy to fix points.

It was the first event in close to a decade to have been observed and the 'expectations' of the observer weren't clearly communicated.

The event has great potential and could easily have 200+ km in a single day of rallying. It does need a deeper pool of of organisers and more volunteers to pull off the full distance. (We had to cancel a stage last year because of a lack of volunteers)

The way it was run last year was still a LOT of fun. Easy recce day, really fun stages and as always a fun after party. I just wish that Snowshoe Sams would stay open later smileys with beer
