Harbour Freight Rally Prep Super Sale!!!

Just went to Harbour Freight to return the big tap and die set that I had bought without realizing it didn't actually have the tap size I wanted. Exchanged it for a sweet hole saw kit that's never on sale. Anyhow, walked around the store checking out the couple of things I'm going to buy soon and they were all on super sale.

31.5" Super High lift Jack - Regular - $169.99, sale $119.99
This is similar to the big Ranger jack, except for this price you could buy two of them for the price of the Ranger one.

Big ass jack stands - Regular $90 pair, sale $55 pair. To get 30" of height with a good sized base.

Pneumatic Palm DA Orbital Sander - Regular $60, sale $33.

So, I'm sure that people will say that HF tools suck. Well, for home/rally use, I'd rather have the ability to buy two or three of something and not have to worry about it. I've bought most of my power tools from HF and not yet has one failed. Their impact sockets are another story, and I'd not recommend hand tools, but power tools seem to be okay.

The HF aluminum jack a friend bought years ago is still alive. My nice Craftsman one crapped out in a year.

The first set I bought worked fine. But I lost them all. The second set, the 18 mm and 19 mm sockets have both broken. The 19 mm didn't even make it around all 16 lug nuts on the car the first time I used it. May have just been a bad one.

Anymore, I just buy the Craftsman ones since they are lifetime exchange warranty. Of course, Sears seems to be getting lame in honoring warranties and storing customer info.

Grant, what happened to your Craftsman jack> Mine farted out too. They will not fix it and said they discontinued the repair kit. Wondering if it's trash or ...?

Mine will go up a little, then stop. Very frustrating when considering what I paid for it. arggh

Yup. Same thing. It's a bad seal in the hydraulic pump unit I believe. On Sears.com there's 39 or so reviews with pretty much the same thing having had happened. It has like a 1.5 out of 5 rating.

I wish i could get one of their high-lift jacks for $119. Damn!
I'm in NH, and there are no local stores and I can't find that deal on their website.

I have a high lift jack like you mention. I don't know if it's the same model or anything, but that not really the point as such.
The thing is - I would never buy one of those jacks again - not that it doesn't work or anything - it's just fine. But I never use the last 10-12" of lift since I feel that the car actually gets to high in the air. And considering that at least my high lift jacks is more than double the size (and weight) of a more normal 20-or-so-inch shop jack, I really think it's a hazzle and not worth the money not to mention the space.

Just a bit of food for thought for those of you dreaming of a high lift jack...

I bought the impact sockets, and the first time I used one, it snapped. I love cheap tools, but I haven't had a lot of luck with HF stuff. Sockets, broken. Vise - snapped off at the base (looking at the steel, it's no surprise...very poor casting), Bvattery powerd impact - quit working in the middle of a tire change (and it always had trouble breaking the lugs loose).

Yup. I've had bad luck with sockets, good luck with jacks and power tools. My cordless impact is on it's 4th year and still rocking. Albeit a bit dirty these days.

Anyhow, here's a pic of the Merkur lifted from the rear diff with Mark standing behind the car.

I've been using harbor freight impact sockets for the last 3 years as a mechanic. Only one has broken, and thats because another mechanic borrowed it and he had it on the bolt crooked with a giant breaker bar on it and he reefed until it snapped. Other than that I havnt had any problems with them. The shallow impact sockets I got are actually IR brand, the deep wells are regular harbor freight pittsburg brand. I've broken more snap on tools than harbor freight, and I use more harbor freight tools every day.
