Girlfriend is out on the hunt for old Saabs again!
January 23, 2008 11:02PM
So my girlfriend who has avoided car ownership for quite some time HAS to buy a car in the next 4 months. She's got a hard on for old Saabs believe it or not. Specifically 99s and 900s (she prefers the 3 doors). I'm hoping to sell her on a 96 of course smiling smiley

Does anyone have a lead on one that is good or can be made good delivered to Ontario for around 5k? I really don't need another _major_ project right now as I'm in the finishing stages of finishing that basement I started underpinning a couple years back and am about to take the upstairs of the house back to the studs smiling smiley

Oh, God.
900s aren't old.

Obviously a hot, fast 96 would be the way to fly.

We should talk.

OH WOW.. how did I miss that one on crazed list!

I wonder if I can sell her on that one

Thanks Grant!

The front runner was:

1970 Saab 96 (Posted 1/2/2008)

Color: Brown Trans: Manual Mileage: 113,000 Price: $3200
Owned since 1974. Stored for last 10 years. Was daily driver before storage. Interior fair, no cracks in dash, free wheeling works, windshield still has orginal warning stickers.
Contact: Corky Thorpe, Elizabeth CO
Email: Click Here
Phone: 303-507-9712

Both look like good cars. The less trouble the better though. She really doesn't want to drive a cavalier.. so I have to respect that smiling smiley

Wow your girlfriends cool. My wife is in love with clean, new comfortable cars that don't (sic) require maintanance. I try to tell her the're all the same but she just loves picking the colour and that new car smell. ARGH!

She's starting to wimp out on me at the moment. I need to get her a ride in a well maintained/restored older saab and have someone else tell her that it will be more than reliable enough.

Wives belong in Subaru Legacy wagons. Enough space for groceries, dogs, kids, etc plus it's safe and has AWD and is cheap to maintain. And it's fun enough to drive around in the snow for hubby to not be bored. That's my thought anyhow, as I sit here preparing to go buy a $600 Impreza. FWD and auto though. Blah. Probably just buy it, drive it home, relist it on craigslist for $1000 and buy a gearbox for the rally car. smiling smiley

Mind you I have nothing against old SAABs I kinda like them but we are talking back when car's had personality. I think the last car with personality rolled off the production line about 2 and a half decades ago.

The great Saab 96 ended production in February 1980.
