Would anyone be interested in taking a look at a Saab 99 near Denver CO?
January 31, 2008 05:08PM
The girlfriend found one she likes there, but I need to be assured that it's not going to need a months work for a safety etc.

Thanks!

Andrew

Hey thanks Grant!

The fellow is going to call me in the morning and we'll see if we can arrange for him to be there on Saturday (it's a business)... Might be some monkeying

You have CLSearch right? If not I do.
www.nocoastmotorsports.net/CLSearch

Just right click to download the .exe file and cities.txt
You can remove cities too if you want. There's a bunch of douchebags in California. The few douchebags with enough intelligence to use the internet tend to list every car with a tag thing at the bottom that basically contains every make ever made. No offense to Californians. Well, actually, nevermind. Take offense if you want. smiling smiley

I use something called crazedlist.. it works pretty well. I will have to check that out.

For some reason at the moment the girlfriend is completely against wagons.. which is weird because I think that's a recent development. That's a reallly nice looking amazon wagon though.. Definitely jealous of the stable of cars available over there.

Looks like were just going to get some random newish sedan now as her father is now involved and the focus is now squarely on safety in unquantified/able terms. Thus negating anything prior to 1998. Which is fine, I've got almost enough toys to play with already smiling smiley

Subaru Impreza. Super safe, yet fun to drive. Almost no depreciation for the later model GC8 stuff.

You might want to check out the movie "The Crying Game" before you get married.

It's already cost more than I wanted to spend on a whole car in repairs.

Bloody Injector Pump and VW $$ parts.

Nice car tho smiling smiley

I'd love the mileage of TDI's. But whenever dealing with VW's or Audi's, I remember what my friend Brett's dad (admittedly an American iron centric mechanic, and a damn good one) said when I was debating whether to run my white XR4 or the recently "inherited" (mom's cast off with no resale value) Audi 80q as a daily driver.

"Audis! @#$% that #$%@!!!! Those cars are for rich people who can afford to pay Hans a thousand dollars for a @#$%@# oil change!!!" Or words to that effect. I drove the Merkur another year or two (although I briefly owned the same Audi again, but never drove it except on and off a trailer).

But there is no sound quite as cool as a 5 cylinder Audi over 6000 rpm.

And you can't beat 50+ mpg, (or however many liters per 100km) even with $4.00+ gallon diesel.

Generally that's what most people out here think.. especially outside the few "urban" centers we have here in Canukistan. I've had only extremely brief encounters with VWs and Audis up until recently.. generally I stayed away from them for these reasons:

- extremely fanatical owners (the kind that wouldn't mind paying $1500 for a brake job) I don't know what they are like out where you are, but some of them here almost make Volvo safety nuts seem normal sometimes.
- parts and the $$$ they cost
- very high resale costs (as with honda civics, mazda proteges, etc).. seems like people are willing to pay 10k for a worn out piece of junk because it's an X and it will go forever because uncle francine had one and never complained about it (or whatever).

I agree, but $1500 dollar injector pumps cut into the fuel economy savings pretty damn fast (I won't mention the up front expense)..

It'll be interesting to see how this car works out on the long run... don't have clear vision because she's had it for a week and a half and it's already thrown an uber expensive part.

I should mention that I'm a bit bitter that she didn't buy a ~2k car (what I was persuading her towards) since she's possibly in school for another 4-6 years and doesn't need a car overly reliable or for long (the reason she's getting a car is for a 6 month job that is super flexible).. I couldn't resist telling her that if a 1.5k car throws a 1.5k part you get another 1.5k car smiling smiley I know, I'm bad. winking smiley

I have to wonder how couples buy houses!
