New Truck
March 04, 2006 12:14AM
Life has been a tizzy of late. The good news is I got a new truck, it's a 2005 Dodge Dakota with a 4.7L V8, 4x4, tow package yadda yadda. I work in construction and am a landlord/superintendant (read, fixes up house in spare time) so I need a truck.. I didn't go full size cause they have gone stupid huge of late and a dakota is most of a 1/2 tonne. The bad news is that it has eaten up all my fun money for the next year or so.

At least I now have a tow vehicle and am no longer taking the bus.

Cheers

Great, I wish I knew someone with a truck smiling smiley At some point, I'm gonna have to rustle up a service crew for this thing.

I am going next week to pick up a toyota pickup serviced by where I work. Got tired of wondering how much it would cost to ride the flatbed home. Also got tired of a 317,000 mile daily driver. The v6 pickup should pull my golf with no problem.

so, I share your excitement lol.

I agree full size trucks are like riding a brotasaurus. Even a half ton rides like a buckboard, gets less then 20 mpg and requires a boating liscense to pilot. I love when you see them perfectly clean parked in a spot outside the local tanning salon or something.

Yeah like I said they've up and gone ridiculous. Ever since they became a fashion item about 10-15 years ago (the new Dodge was the starting point IMO).

Bucking is actually a sign the suspension was designed to do work. It's when they ride like a car that they arnt.

A V6 will tow your golf no problem.. might be sketchy if you're putting it on a full trailer..

Have fun with it.

I have a Toyota Tacoma with a 3.4L, 190HP, and 220 foot pounds torque.

When I went from Vancouver BC to Merritt BC, I had to cross the Coquihalla Pass. The pass is 4068' in elevation. I was towing a uhaul trailer, the Colt, had one guy with me in the truck and loaded with gear. We made it without incident, although we were definately not setting any speed records.

i'll be using a car dolly. i figured if it can't pull 2300 pounds on a dolly i was going to ram it into the nearest tree. My stuipd ass 240 could probably pull that golf on a dolly.

There's a lady up the street from work who pulls a 2 horse trailer with a v6 tacoma. That's madness....but it does it.

Skye have you thought about a rambulance. New 7.3L diesel and sirens - they rock, the flashing lights are cool. When rally car is gone Ambulance is next to go.

Yeah it would get the job done..

I think my engine stats are 4.7L V8 SOHC 16V Magnum, 235 hp at 4,500 RPM and 300 lbs. ft. of torque at 3,600 RPM or around that. More than I need.

Towing the Colt with the Tacoma to my first event, and subsequently the first time I had towed a car on a full trailer was an experience (it was afterall close to the max capacity of the truck). I think I was more concerned about the fact of not having a transmission cooler or let alone a guage to monitor the transmission fluid temp. This was expecially so as I was making the trek across the pass.

Leaving home to go to the rally, we ended up leaving 3 hours later than planned. I wonder if the is a common occurance amongst rally folk ? By the time everything was together and the fact that the "wonderful" people at uhaul rented my pre-booked trailer to someone else by mistake, didn't help us out the door any sooner. Ahhhh the memories of the last minute scramble.

In retrospec... next time the trailer should go behind my friends E250 (service vehicle) that has a 5.4 in it. Hey Graham are you reading this ? smiling smiley

A car dolly will be fine. I find it makes a really big difference if the car you're hauling is on a dolly or a trailer. Which is of course quite obvious.

As for the V6 tacoma.. I think it's our culture of overkill that makes us all shudder when reading that. But yeah, I'd want a bigger truck.

I think it's a prerequisite that you are a moron to work at uhaul.

Hey, that's a great idea. Maybe kind of clapped out, but might still have the wheelchair lift hahaha

Ali would slit my throat if I got another vehicle. Maybe some theoretical future co-driver will have something. On the other hand, I am going to need something to haul lumber etc if I built that cabin this summer....
