Yes, smashing up the car so both ends can't roll is an issue. if that happens, I guess I will figure it out somehow. From tarmac hillclimbs in vermont to my place is like 2 1/2 hours, but my grandmother lives in Montpelier. I could perhaps get it there.

Either way, I can afford to drive a toyota pickup every day. I cannot afford to run a 1/2 or 3/4 ton full size every day.

It's cheaper to buy a trailer and rent a truck the few times you really need it then to own one, if it's only use is for towing to rallies. Just make sure to tell them that some friends are coming from NYC and you have one of those bike racks that needs a hitch and you guys are going camping so you need a full size SUV. Ron Nelson paid like $250 for Oregon Trails in 04 like this. Cheaper than one months payment and you don't have to pay insurance on it.

Without a doubt. But I need one approaching daily in the summer and don't have a car to tow to rallies.

Your absolutely right though. Around here nearly 80% of truck owners hardly ever use it for it's intended purpose. They are just so damn stylish.

I have to correct myself. Ron paid $450, but he flew back and his crew decided to stay an extra 4 days and play in the forest. And it was an Expedition they rented. If you need it regularly, then buying would be best. Most rallyists really only need it for a weekend 6-8 times a year.
