Now that there is some funny chit...all at slooowww speeds pretty much. hope they don't have freeways over there. Everyone seems to have the 'wrong of way' and I can't believe all the people walking in the road right besides a fender bender.

Saw this elsewhere. Scary shit. I didn't enjoy seeing people run over, maybe since I've been injured so much in life i have a bone of empathy unbroken....

They do have freeways and near the cities they're crowded and slower, on the open road they're empty almost.

Considering that China has created---from Government policies and monumental hard work---a middle class with purchasing power like the middle of the US middle class and upwards---for 300,000,000 people* in barely 20 years, and widespread car ownership is something seen only in the last say 10-12 years (I first went to China in 2003, and of the large group of close friends of my sweet dear wife, NONE had a car in 2003, now all are married and all have a car), and the transformation has been in less than a generation, they ain't doing THAT bad.

There is basically ONE RULE: don't hit anything.
But density, machismo (the Chinese are gawddamn feisty people and despite 3000 years of Confucian obedience drilled into their heads effectively, they fortunately have huge doses of Buddhist practicality counterbalancing the impulse for obedience, and cooperation. Buddhism teaches us that there's Karma, but there is also DHARMA, or duty, and a sense of Justice makes the Chinese ready to draw the "Duty to right injustice" card and really was a major factor in the 3 Revolutions China fought in the last century), a work pace way stressier than here and well things go bang...

One wonders when people are laughing at this what the excuse is for US here killing 38,000 a year if "we're' so good...

Current population is a smidge over 1,3 billion in China which while roughly a bit larger than Continental USA, has population squeezed into the coastal 1/3 and up the river valleys.

Current US population is a smidge over 300,000,000.
So thanks to CCP policies not just liberalize trade but actively assisting economic development, 300,000,000 people enjoy quite high standards of living and virtually everybody has seen an substantial improvement.

Also considering about 50% of the place is under 30 years old, their accomplishments--which are enormous, is even more amazing.

But as we see, not always perfectly smoothly....

I love the bike-on-bike and bike-on-scooter action. smiling smiley Car on bike/scooter is sad smiley but at least looked survivable.

There are so many possible targets to watch in each vignette, all moving so slowly, it's a fantastic game to try to predict which one will be the target.

Over on another forum, survivors of Chinese driving are saying that a) There are lots and lots and lots of rules over there about lots and lots of things, like say frinstance driving, but since there are so many, most people ignore them completely, and b) insurance seems to add to the fun. One guy said that you really don't wanna ride a bike, cuz if you get hit, the other driver may very well back up and run you over again to make sure you're dead, cuz that's less of an insurance hit!

In any case, the number of times where neither party make even the slightest effort to avoid the crash makes for so much WTF that there's no real point in looking for the many and varied WTF causes of all this WTF-itude.

Oh and John, US drivers do suck, just nowhere near as hard as in this expample. Not even in Boston do they suck as silly as this.

I know in India they said if you hit someone you pay for the repairs and all their medical bills. If you kill someone you pay their family like $1000 or so dollars. I hit a bicyclist while driving the rickshaw. I did the whole just keep going and pretend it didn't happen (which is what US embassy recommends, though they say to go to one of their embassies, not so easy in some non-tourist area.) Got pulled over a few blocks later. Played the, "I don't understand what you're saying" even though the cop was speaking decent English. Eventually the bicyclist showed up. He had a few scrapes. Bike was such a piece in the first place couldn't tell if we hurt it. Mark smartly jumps out with a 500 rupie bill. Cop says okay, but that's too much and tells the bicyclist to go get change. We're like, no, no, that's fine, can we leave. They let us leave. 500 Rupies is equivalent to about $10 so I was quite happy.

Yup you're a bad person, which is way preferable to being a totally inept driver...

Very funny stuff. the best parts IMO are the non efforts to avoid an easily avoidable accident, and then the driver hits a stationary object after the accident as well. OMFG terrible drivers.

I've been injured quite a few times in my life, broken bones. I've had some very painful snowboarding accidents where even at the time i knew it was funny to people on the chair lift.

life is short
pay taxes
laugh
die.

or pay taxes
die.

take your pick ! smiling smiley
