Wow. This is getting cool.
So many different ways it can go this week. All times are in mountain time zone. Group A - Both matches tomorrow at 8 am. If Uruguay and Mexico tie, they both go on. If either loses, then South Africa or France could go on if the team that wins the match gets enough goals. France is at -2, South Africa is -3. Mexico is at +2, Uruguay is at +3. That's Goals For - Goals Against. That's what's used to decide winner if there is a points tie. If still tied, then they just use Goals Scored. Group B - Both matches tomorrow at 12:30 pm. Argentina is in the lead and plays Greece tomorrow. If Greece were to win the match, they would be tied in points at the top. Argentina goes into the match with +4 goals, Greece with -1. Now to make things more interesting, Korea plays Nigeria. If Korea wins that match then too will have six points making it a three way tie. Korea also goes into this round with -1 on goals, but with 1 more goal scored than Greece. So, we could very well see a 3 way tie. If Korea loses they'll be tied with Nigeria. If Greece also loses then there will be a three way tie for who will move on with Argentina. Group C and D are similarily interesting. I'll post more on those two matches tomorrow though! I will be skipping the first few hours of work on Wednesday morning to go to the bar to watch the USA vs. Algeria and England vs. Slovenia. Grant Hughes |

At half Uruguay is beating Mexico 0-1. South Africa up on France 2-0.
If the Mexico Uruguay match stays like that, South Africa would need two more goals to tie Mexico, but that would also give them more goals for and thus they'd win the tie breaker. Man I wish I was watching this match. Grant Hughes |

So South Africa beats France 2-1. That means Mexico and Uruguay to move on to bracket play.
At half time, Nigeria and Korea are tied 1-1. Greece and Argentina are also tied 0-0. Greece has to either win or Korea needs to lose if Greece wants to move on. I think I may have to walk up the street to Old Chicago to watch the finish of these two matches. Grant Hughes |

Got to Old Chicago just in time for penalty time. Oh well, at least I got a beer out of the deal. Stupid meetings.
Greece got beat and Nigeria and South Korea tied. Thus South Korea and Argentina advance from Group B. Onto Group C: - Games tomorrow at 8 am mountain time. England vs. Slovenia and USA vs. Algeria. If USA wins, they will go on regardless. If England wins, they will go on regardless. If Slovenia wins they will go on regardless. If Algeria wins, USA will be out regardless. If England wins in this scenario, England will go on and Algeria and Slovenia will come down to goals. Current Algeria is at -1 and Slovenia is at +1. Slovenia has +3 goals scored and Algeria has 0 currently. So Algeria needs to get some goals and not allow any if they would want to move on. They also need England to score goals and not allow any. If England loses, Slovenia and Algeria go on. At this point, it really is hard to call. Algeria has not had a great showing and the Slovenia has. So what would be expected would be for USA to beat or tie Algeria and Slovenia to beat or tie England thus having USA and Slovenia advance. We'll see tomorrow morning what actually happens. I'm going into work two hours late because I want to watch these matches. Group D: - Tomorrow at 12:30 pm Mountain time Ghana (4 points) plays Germany (3 points) Serbia (3 points) plays Australia (1 point) This is probably one of the closer groups. Australia has to win this game for any hope of moving on. They also need to have Ghana win or they need to score a whole lot of goals as they are currently at -4 for total goals. If Ghana v Germany is a tie or if Germany wins, they will be tied with tied with both teams or just with Ghana. Ghana goes in with +1 in goals, Germany with +3 so Australia pretty much would need a miracle and high goal counts in one of the games to have any hope. Serbia can move on with either a win or a tie in the Ghana v Germany game. If they win, they are guaranteed to move on. If they tie it gets a bit more complicated. They would need Germany to beat Ghana by at least two goals or to have their own tie be at 2+ goals per team if they wanted to beat Ghana to second place in Group D. It's close in both groups and maybe a bit hard to call in either who will move on to the top 16. Guess we'll just have to watch. You can watch streamed coverage in a few places. ESPN3.com is streaming the videos, but your internet service provider has to be a partner with ESPN to watch. It's pretty good res though if you have the connection speed. You can't watch games that are broadcast on ABC on ESPN3 though, which is mostly weekend matches. ATDHE.net has some lower resolution streams that you can watch regardless of ISP or ABC vs. ESPN broadcast. You can also follow Match Cast on FIFA.com and see the standings and schedule and stuff of that nature. You can watch from home on TV. Schedule here: http://www.espnmediazone3.com/us/2010/01/espn-inc-2010-fifa-world-cup-schedule/ Or you can really make it fun and find a good British pub nearby that's broadcasting it. When else do you have a good excuse to drink a beer at 8 am? Grant Hughes Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/22/2010 04:17PM by NoCoast. |

Do0d. I don't want HotShitz or DeeMess or Teen or Gaysport suspenders on mah rally car. When the time comes, I'll be looking to add a little SooperBitchin Kawi Green to mah wheel wells. Been planning that for years now. Brian Driggs | KG7KCA | PHX, AZ | 89 Pajero alterius non sit qui suus esse potest |
