And on the other end of the spectrum, "NASA officials and astronauts tried to 'blow up' 55,000 tons of solid rocket fuel today in Cape Canaveral, FL....instead, it took off like a rocket and successfully landed on the Moon."

That's exactly opposite what I was told. Odd how stories get twisted around so quickly.

Unfortunate to lose a life over such silliness...I'll bet Darwin will outlast Nobel by centuries.

Indeed.
What we do, or have done can and is looked at by maybe most people as risky and foolhardy and some of us (me) have spent years in wheelchairs, and crutches and decades of chronic pain as a result of injuries--but those were from accidents, mistakes, not just plain craziness.
Tragic yeah, but also tragically stupid.
A life, relatively young too, thrown away, and another facing god knows how much horrible pain (I was burned very badly at age 10 in a gasoline fire---it took years to be normal---or sorta normal, and that pain was central in forming attitudes the rest of my life---guess there was some good in the end. But man I can't imagine how bad the poor guy alive will do with his injuries, it can crack the brain for many).
