Boy doesn't forget his roots

Nice to see young guns remember "glory old days" of Vatanen, Mikkola, Clark, Waldegard, etc, etc
Jari-Matti has Escort, too. He's competing at Lahti Historic Rally this coming week-end. The last time he won, ofcourse!, but after 1st stage with only 1st, 4th and 5th left in the 'box smiling smiley THAT took some hairy driving.... He rev poor BDA to 10 000ROM.
Jari-Matti at Lahti 2009:

And Mikko testing his new BDA toy:

-------------------
What you think: 20 of these at Coliseum? Rather than a few "600hp", $ 200 000 piece shit that won't stay together for 5 miles sad smiley And junk Subarus that won't even START!!! Jesus, where are all good mechanics gone? Or is it junk components?
For less money ESPN could have shown WRC Finland LIVE.

Yeah I saw lots of vids from Lahti and man the boy is FAST and he drives the Escort C-l-e-a-n-l-y.
Isn't it interesting that THERE you have guys building things like that or Garde in his F-cup BMW when they're spending theior own money and rallying for fun instead of just buying an older WRC car to go and massacre the locals..
THAT is why they have class....

as for the second half; what do you expect when GLAMOR and Glitz aka "Bling" and hype is the paramount thing...
Everybody tarts themselves up like they are whore---so to speak---and they can't get it up....
Sorry for us here so much effort and money is wasted for such idiocy.

While no doubt true, I wonder what the maintenance costs are on an older WRC car versus Group F.

I'll assume that the suspension costs are about the same...

No I would imagine the suspension cost are 300-400% higher minimum for a WRC car, and diffs and CVs and drive axles and gears and and and everything 5 to 8 times more (knowing what both cost second hand)....
Used World rally cars from 01-03 still bring more than 200K... parts were in short batches, and are RARE, so figure that in. I've seen WRC Subie rear half shaft with 2 CVs for £1800

Kankkunen (his sponsors) paid 1 300 000 € (1 690 000 USD) for 2010 WRC Finland rental... That's 30 top notch Escorts!
FIA BDA Escorts are expensive because they can't use all re-production engine parts (blocks, heads, cranks, rods etc) and only super rare ZF is the legal 5spd dog box.
But a typical Finnish GrF 2.2-2.4L Pinto OHC is as powerful (roller cam, even billet heads) but gives a little on handling thanks to hi C-C. Reasonable dogboxes are available.
Suspension is peanuts compared to WRC thanks to lo weight = no damage on landing hard.

Interesting to compare old and new. GrN cars are by far most boring. S2000 are exciting, at least on gravel and in Finland.
But the Historic and National GrF cars are best! So, we've gone backward... and all that money spend has destroyed the show and sport sad smiley I remember when they had 50-60 car waiting list for WRC Finland. They "only" took 200. Now, some WRC rallies won't get 50-60 entries! Cars are simply too expensive to built/buy and run.

Jooooo pojka where is stage times??

Gotta agree.
Lat-valpa (är det en finsk versionen av en svensk lat hund men yngre?)
sure drives that Escortiin nice...

Grope N makes me say 'meh'.

Remember, when I tried to get the name of our Group 2 changed to Group f it was partly to show a little respect to whoever cooked up F-cup in Finland, but it was also a sorta complicated joke on a bunch of levels, but like always some truth in the jokeÖ I said that the F stands for Future, and that if ever a foundation would be laid upon which sustainable growth could build on, the we would have to 'Go back to the future', and choose and build cars that were cheap enough to buy, there was real competition parts for and which were fast enough to be fun enough to make people crazy----and then they are hooked...

man I look at the countryside in the background, the fields and the trees and I have a strange homesickness.....only it's not my home, and I only lived there 7-8 years.. Summer... (sigh)

Go to "Elokuu" (August) and dig up Entries and Results for all. Note - there were two rallies at same time. National and Historic.
By quicky scanning Jari-Matti was hanging on well overall on some stages but he was there to enjoy WRC Finland win. Top national drivers in any type of cars were much faster, even a Starlet was faster smiling smiley And they ARE trying hard:
