More grief
October 16, 2010 11:23AM
This morning http://www.comcast.net/articles/sports-general/20101016/US.Speedway.Death/

No real details but if they are letting 'civilians' run at 160mph it makes me wonder who thought that was a good idea.

Yesterday, on another forum I gave some stranger grief about his post of driving 140mph on a public highway.

While we are at it, I pass over a 100 square foot blood stain on highway 101 on my commute, where some young lady got ejected from her tumbling SUV, 100mph, no seat belt, texting...

The human body was never designed to go faster than 30mph or so. I had a school mate killed in a 25 mph accident so it can happen (he was belted in also). When you are running 160mph the sheer force of hitting a wall just destroys organs and brain tissue. "Real" racers somewhat understand and accept the dangers of going fast. You balance that against the massive fun you have doing it. I've been around 140 a time or two and it wasn't that much fun. I'd rather blast a downhill hairpin at 30...

People at schools and 'experiences' assume that someone is looking out for them and that is is a safe thing to do with little risk, just like people jumping with bungee cords or I suppose parachutes.

I don't think there should be a law, but 100 pmh is plenty fast enough in an "Indy" type car at and
"experience". You just need to get a smaller track to keep it in perspective. I personally wouldn't drive one at 160 and I have 36 years of racing ..but mine have shrunk a bit over the years.

I would rather go out at 160mph than die from a paper cut infected with mrsa!

Seriously though, some people just dont know their limits in life!

whats that saying?

I want to die like my grampa; in his sleep, not screaming, like the three passengers in his car.

Sucks, and it's so sad for her and her family... What a tragedy.. But, her choice. Call it Darwin or whatever, the last thing we need is government involvement or lawyers involved (although you can bet there are)!

Bummer, but I gotta tell you... a couple months back I was given a very bad prognosis and very little hope. I did some soul searching and decided I'd rather go out living than go on dying. Maybe she felt the same way.

BTW, no worries for me... the docs and their 95% accurate test turned out to be wrong (as shown by the 99% accurate tests), so I've been trying to get on with doing some of that living.
