Brewing!
May 08, 2012 01:17AM
Brewed my first batch tonight. Creme stout with about 2oz of vanilla extract added to the primary fermenter. Hopefully ill start to see some action from the yeast over the next couple days.

transferred to the secondary. Has been three days and only a little change in the hydrometer reading (1.028 to 1.026) so i decided to transfer over. So in about two weeks i will see how its doing for bottling.

I did taste the wort. The sample was from the bottom of the siphon so it had some trub in it and a little odd tasting but did have a distinct warm as hell stout flavor. So its looking promising.

Bottled the Creme Stout on Sunday night. Ended up with 27 16oz swing top bottles and 4 12oz capped bottles. Ended up drinking about 8oz of it as a sample. For being warm and uncarbonated, it was pretty good! I don't sanitize my bottles, I actually sterilize them via the powers of 400 degree oven and an aluminum covering (foil).

Before and After!

Cask drawn unfiltered ale is still my favorite. I got way too shit faced at a medical conference in Baltimore a few years ago after stumbling into the Wharf Rat in Baltimore. There's one place in Denver that has some options, but it's too close to the Art Museum and too many $700K+ lofts/row homes to be that cool of a place.
