"There is a sunset on safety requirements on importing cars into Canada. I thought it was around 15 years, but could be 20."
It is 15 years. A lot of fast cars can be imported from Japan now (1991 and earlier). The "Free Trade Agreement" allows for cars less than 15 years to be imported from the US. Although certain cars 15 years or newer are not allowed to be imported from the US. Any car 15 years or older does not require a Federal Inspection by the Canadian Government. When I imported the Colt, they didn't even go out to look at it. Provincially in BC, the car had to go through a safety inspection before I could register it. Although when exporting a car from the US, make sure you have the car cleared for Export from the US authorities first. The Canadian side don't give a shit whether it's cleared or not, but if the car isn't cleared you risk fines and vehicle seizure (appearantly). |

You're right that there are a lot of parts in Europe, but you still have to pay for shipping and wait for it to get here. Theres nothing like paying 30 dollars to ship a 2 dollar part. I've never owned one so I'm just going from what I've heard as to how it is to work on. > One major problem we had back in those days was > the suspension preparation and setup. I'd much rather have a car that's worth half nothing that I can actually drive than have a super special thing that becomes a life sized model of a car. They call those wifes.
In Wyoming I had a hard time finding someone to fix my Subaru when I was 16 and had no clue or resources to do it myself. No shop would touch it. They said Subaru's were to difficult to work on. I found an independent guy to do it. It was a FWD 1.6L that needed a new clutch. Grant Hughes |

There are some cars "mechanics" don't want to work on. Not because they are actually difficult to work on, but because they don't want to mess it up, kinda like a phobia.
4-5 years ago I got stuck working on a Lamborghini Espada, a car I call the Depression Era Lambo, 12cyl with a bank of 6 Webers. Nothing electronic. Some rodents have chewed up the harness and the Webers were older than dirt. I have never ever ever worked on an Espada before but that didn't scare me. After 2 months, the wiring was repaired, Webers rebuilt ($89/rebuild kit/carb), and even the radio was working. That was a car that sat in a warehouse for 5 years because nobody would touch it. I lost contact with the owner but last time I heard from him, he was driving it almost daily and loving it. You are quite a man for taking on an Espada. Besides being ugly as sin, I imagine it can be quite a nightmare. But if you had 2 months to work on it that wasn't so bad.
I don't want to start a holy war, but I have to agree with my dad a fair bit on the observation that a whole lot of mechanics these days are just glorified parts changers. Diagnostics isn't much of a strong suit with many of them these days. sagsert Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There are some cars "mechanics" don't want to work > on. Well in case of the Espada it was more like not being able to fuck a has-been-B-Movie star chick who had more than her fair share of plastic surgeries and you met at a bar in Tijuana.
Is it graphic enough boys ?? Cheers M.Samli Phoenix AZ Gaylant VR4 EVO III GSR (Stolen) Rallies are no place for traitors |

There are exceptions. I have absolutely no intentions of getting married anytime soon. Or even having a long term girlfriend. I'll stick to short term relationships for now. Most girls in Denver simply want someone who will buy them stuff, and spending all your money on rally shit while surviving on peanut butter sandwiches, coffee, and beer doesn't go over too well with girls around here. Or when your idea of a good weekend is to spend Saturday at the shop welding and machining shit and all of Sunday out driving rally cars. Again, there are a few exceptions to this.

Grant,
I agree with you. I did enough to have fun with those tards and fun I had, just be yourself and when a real cool chick comes make sure you don't pass the opportunity by. There arn't a lot of them around. Cheers NoCoast Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There are exceptions. John's right... don't pick the wrong one.
When I found the right one I was 37. I'm glad I didn't "settle" for someone before then. Needle in a hay stack... nice tits, nice body, likes anything fast (more than likely a little crazy), cleans up nice, doing a post doctorate in neurology, almost 10 years younger than me... |
