Continuation of : "Diagnosing and repairing motor problem".
Okay so the motor's coming out, the learning experience will be good for me. Taro, I've found a place in Vancouver that rents hydrolic engine hoists. : ) Just let me know what's day's good for you. I'll pick up some propane to heat the garage and steaks to BBQ. Since the motor is coming out anyways, it seems like the perfect time to have a beefier cam spec'd for the motor. JVL is this something that you're able to advise on ? (spec's for a replacement cam) |

Pull the front cover and see if all those skids and chains are still there.
I probably have photos. BEFORE you pull the motor. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Pacific Standard Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time. |

Morty,
Did you ascertain that there is a problem with the ENGINE (not motor) ? All you wankers are driving me nuts referring to your engines as MOTORS. You wanna sound like an Apalcahian American ? Go watch NASCRAP. JVL I double dog dare you to tell me that the Francophones refer to the engine as MOTEUR. I double diggity dog dare you. ![]() Cheers M.Samli Phoenix AZ Gaylant VR4 EVO III GSR (Stolen) Rallies are no place for traitors |

Got the front cover off yet? get the rad out of the way and approach from the front.
Do nothing till you do that. As for cams, just having a max lift and a duration figure really doesn't tell the RATE of opening*, and that's why I have ALWAYS said it's better to buy cams from Uk or better Sweden cause then you can be assured it was developed for rally use and that's what we do. Now with a G52 hybrid you don't have lots of choices. But you do want something with maybe 11. sumpin lift and duration maybe like 290 to 300 degrees and maybe 106 degrees lobe separation. * My camgrinder say to illuistrate how impossible it is to say what a cam is like from just max lift and timing quoted at ??? He says "I'm thinking of a place that is 3.3 miles (distance= lift) and will take me exactly 17 minutes (time+duration) to gety there. Tell me from that what route I will take and how fast I will drive the whole way." After some research into camshafts and how they work, I've come up with a couple of questions and am also wondering if I'm on the right track.
106 Lobe seperation means that torque peaks early in the RPM. Because I have an OHC with mechanical rockers does that mean to rocker ratio is 1:1 ? It seems confusing to compare camshaft specifications from company to company because there isn't a standarized method of measuring lift. JVL do you remember what the compression ratio and stroke length is of the hybrid motor as opposed to a stock one ? When overlap is mentioned, is this a measurement of duration or lift or neither ? I have looked at some of the UK manufacturers of camshafts (Piper Cams) but they don't offer anything for my motor. Thanks ! |

"You will get encephalo overloadis"
Perhaps a side effect of this are the camshaft and valve train dreams I've been having lately, only to wake up in a cold sweat ? I'll get to cover off this afternoon. I realize that to have a cam spec'd, ground from a blank, or mine reground is going to have lead time. It's this lead time that I was trying to minimize by getting the information sooner as opposed to later. Just trying to get all my ducks in a row. |
