Mustafa- If you read through some of the post, someone there links to the Rustoleum website where is shows that the stuff they're using is "Rustoleum" marketed under a different name for the Canuckistanian market. Hey Booys,
The reason I wanted to fersure spray all the shit I sprayed with real automotive pain is mainly for the added hardener which can't be in spray cans cause of shelf life issues. paint the undersides, insides, AFTER BRUSHING ON PAINT WHERE IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH WITHJ SPRAY and the engine compartments and wheel housing with good shit, spray it on WET and it should be good. The rest, Maaco. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Pacific Standard Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time. |

'xcept at least the Yurrupeean alternative Hammerite does turn REAL hard. Just takes longer. But compared to spray bombs - that may a different story. The other thing is that spraying in ones own garage takes a lot of covering up just about everything to avoid getting overspray on it. I've tried it - twice - and it's a nightmare in my oppinion. If you read through the post on moparts.com, you see where its mentioned to thin the paint with mineral spirits, this helps get the consistancy you need and it also flashes the paint. He describes it as being ready to sand and recoat the next day. Rustoleum gets quite hard. I just used it to repaint a wheelbarrow. It holds up really well. Hammerite is about the same thing. I have seen it before.

I decided to try the Rustoleum roller method. I hate the prepping deal, I hate sanding but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. It will have to wait till after the World Cup though. I have my priorities.

I don't know anyone in the rally community well enough to not at least give them benefit of the doubt, but I feel a bit more comfortable on this site than (cough) that other one*, so I'll let Mustafa do the painting on this guy while I stick to the girlies. ![]() *This place is more my style. So your saying he has no input into rules/rule changes? I highly doubt that. My observations is that he is directly involved on much of the input regarding technical rule changes and interpretations from sources such as the SFI, FIA, and others.
For historical reference for why some people dislike him, search Mike Hurst here, or Fuel Cell Bulkhead at Specialstage.com. It's a highly disputed interpretation of FIA rules that ended in implementation in Rally America rules. And also led to quite a few competitors choosing to not comply and only to compete in NASA sanctioned events. I can't say I dislike him, but I tend to not agree with him on some subjects, much as I tend to not agree with many people in oafishal positions on some subjects. I've spoken with him at quite a few rallies though and he's overseen tech on cars I've helped build and competed in a few times too. Grant Hughes Edited 1 time(s). Grant, Mike indeed does have some input into the rules. And he is the first interpreter of them. But he does not work in a vacuum or without supervision. If any one really thought Mike was wrong, you can appeal to JB and then to Doug. Can't go higher than Doug as he owns the company. And JB and Doug tend to trust Mike more than Mustafa whether that is good or bad. Mustafa of course thinks he knows best. And I of course know that every one except me is full of it.
