VW 020 diff & 4.25 Install ??
December 19, 2007 10:39PM
Now that i bought one of those Final Drives off of JVL i have a couple of questions regarding installation. (020 4K box out of mk1 8v GTI)

I have read thru the other topic and came up with this;

I need:
-2 bearings; Part # 411 501 283 E
# 311 405 625 B

-4 bolts: Part # n 900 751 01
-The Manual Transmission Gasket kit
-The green Flange Cap

I also need a 9inch two jaw puller

Is there anything else? (circlips or bearings) I hope to do the swap over one weekend and dont wanna be stuck unfinished. I will also be installing an LSD as well...

Those are the things I replaced when I had mine apart. It looked like mine had been rebuilt semi-recently so things were still pretty fresh inside. Its hard to say what else you'll need until you open it up and take a look at the condition of things inside.

Oh, you'll also need a bolt kit for the ring gear if you dont have one already.

I used the same one, speedo isnt accurate at all but it helps when I tell rally storeis. I dont think there are any speedo gears for the 4.46 ring gear.
But if you're using the 4.25 I would bet you could use the speedo gear from a 92 ecodiesel jetta, they had the avx transmission with the 4.25 final drive stock.
I think the part number for that is 171 957 821 C if I'm reading this diagram right. Its got 17 teefs.

I keep on putting red ones into my 4K and they fall inside in no time without any reading. I read somewhere i need a white one but since i will be putting in the 4.25 i wanna make sure i get the right one...
Do you know the Colour?

Thanks

green is what my etka says for the ecodiesel 4.25 speedo gear. The red ones are for the 3.67 final drives. The 4k has a 3.98 or so and I think those take the white ones.

parts4vws.com has them. $10 ea.

green: 4.25
white: 3.89/3.94
red: 3.67

They shouldn't fall off, unless you're forgetting to reinstall the circlip that holds them on. smiling smiley
