Check battery voltage? Skye, your nuts. Okay, since you don't seem to want to start with the easy stuff, pull your fucking radiator. It takes like 5 minutes. Then you can get a proper socket wrench on the crank. Pull all the accessory belts so that when you turn the crank, your only turning the motor. Make sure the car is out of gear. If you can not turn the crank then continue.
Pull the oil filter and look for chunkies. Pull the oil pan and visually examine all the bearings. Have you gotten that service manual yet. Grant Hughes |

Okay, > since you don't seem to want to start with the > easy stuff, pull your fucking radiator. It takes > like 5 minutes. No there's some NON CAPTIVE nuts and also the electric fan is also a pain, I detailed suggestions to make pulling the rad easier via email when the car was here. Right now it is a huge fucking pain in the ass. The wiring for the fan ain't thought out too well either. Then you can get a proper socket > wrench on the crank. If he had the right size in 1/2" drive, and a breaker bar it's no problem. Very likely he doesn't have a good selection of bigger sockets and a breaker bar. Yeah now there's a thought. The axle broke and I gently suggest it was from nobody checking the oil in maybe 15 years. Maybe the box broke, maybe. > Pull the oil filter and look for chunkies. Saw the filter open right at the base, spread the pleats out and see if there are LOTS of shiney metal particles. Who knows whats going on with that whacky additional oil tank with the big lever. Thanks for the suggestions... I've got my work cut out for me.
Other than 150 some odd piece of socket set... what should I be buying for tools ? Seems everything I have is dedicated to wood and concrete work. The previous owner, Jim Thompson supplied me with a nice book that has the date and milage for when parts were changed... even has the convenient Napa corresponding parts numbers. The oil in the diff had less that 1400 miles on it since it was changed. The car has a new electric fan, I can post pics of the it and the motor if you like ? for that fact, pics of anything that you guys want to see (errrr car related only, please). In determining if the motor is seized, here's what's suggested : Turn the crank with the plugs out Jack the rear of the car up, leave it in top gear and spin the tires If the car is in neutral and I can't turn the motor, does it make a difference to push the clutch to the floor and try again. So far: didn't run out of oil, the plugs look fine, the timing chain appears to be intact, can't turn crank with 10" cresent wrench can't jump from truck starter engages but doesn't turn motor |

Use a breaker bar and a socket to turn your crank please, and I say please.
This is not brain surgery. As far as tools are concerned, I hope and pray to Moses, Christ, Mohammed, Vishnu, Budha, Shiva and Manitou that you are not referring to Costco kit that comes in a fancy plactic carrying case. Get proper tools for heavens sake. I don't mean SnapOn but at least Harbor Freight. As infrequent as you will use them they should last forever. Mustafa that's a lot of praying !
My kit if not Costco, and probably more like Harbour Freight. It's Crappy Tire (Canadian Tire), tools are okay and the lifetime replacement warranty's not bad either. I don't have a hollow pipe, but will go pick one up, then remove the rad, and give it a torque. |

Mustafa, I have the cheap ass costco kit on my power boat and have done much work with it in the last 5 years. Since the tools are going to rot away in the salt air anyway and I do not use them everyday the kit is fine.
Morten: Look someone built it, it does not work on magic and you can fix what ever you brake messing around. The be a bit more recless and dive in. can you shine a light down the spark plug holes? Are the pistons wedged up against a valve? When my motor seized at Wild West it turnned out to be broken bolts on the clutch/Pressure Plate/ Flywheel. It is highly unlikely the motor sized unless it made really loud bang or bad smells with lots of smoke just prior to sizing so the problem is likely somewhere else. You should be able to turn the motor with a short wrench with plugs out. From what you have said I would be suspect of the startermotor, it might have jammed, pull it off. It is likely held with 2 bolts +some wire. When it is off see if you can make it spin from the battery. I have had 3 times in my life where startermotor not disengaging keep the motor from turning, they jammed against the ring gear. Derek In the long run reality always wins. |

Why don't you take out the seats too, and try cleaning the rear window. That makes about as much sense as your current troubleshooting methodology.

"That makes about as much sense as your current troubleshooting methodology."
Do you care to elaborate ! After the ball joint weekend, I'm heeding the advice of doing what people are telling me to do. Just because you're bummed that your tires wont fit on your car... don't get all pissy with me young man ! Instead why not come visit me in Vancouver and show me how it's done ? |

I'm not bummed, I'm elated, the car's almost on the road.
Elaboration is not necessary, it's been repeated ad nausea in this thread. www.rallyrace.net |

So is that a... sure I'll come and help you out ?
Can you explain to me why the voltage in the battary would make a difference, if I'm not able to jump the car off another running vehicle. Because that doesn't make much sense to me. As for the rest... I'm prodding along doing the advice of what people have given me. |

Dude,
Move to Arizona I'll haelp you get your car on the road. Actually voltage is important, as important as having GOOD GROUND. No juice in the battery, no cranking power. Capische ? Forget about battery and stuff for the time being. Jack the tail up, put the damn socket on the breaker bar (notice I didn't say pipe on a spanner) and give it a go. Now don't fucking yell at me people... I'm learning !
How do I measure that resistance ? You guys could cut me some slack, just like I'd cut you slack if I told you to go stick frame a hip or repair a cantelevered deck on a lowrise. I've done way more on my car in the past week then I've done in the last 6 months, and I'll keep working on it. I appreciate the direction that I'm getting here. Thanks guys ! And Kirby if you're in Vancouver, look me up because I'd sure like to give you a bitch slap ! |
