Hej Ozgur!

Got the bottoms of your struts ready for welding earsd on and made some nice stainless steel spacers to get the tops ready to use Sub-a-rat top mounts.
Made them so you can use the 14mm spacers above the mount and a washer below, or use the 14mm spacer below and the washer about.
This'll let you tune the overall length by 15mm.
I'll post piccies soon.

Now gotta decide what to do with the motor!
I am thinking now going the Wimpey way which is what you had suggested earlier. ABA OBD1 with a 16v head unless the guy in GA did not sell that nicely built (ready to assemble) 2lt block. I already have a 2lt 16v but it will require some rebuilding.
i am confused????

Decided i will run Subarat top mounts though

Depends on the VW.
MkI= sawz-all the hole a bit bigger, drill three holes, get some spacers.

MkII= chop off truncated cone, sawz-all hole, drill 3 holes, get some spacers

$5, and failure of bearing is fixed

Which model subaru are you ordering for? I sure can't find one for $5 online. Best I can do is $45.

You are underestimating John's cheapness. The $5 ones come off cars in the junkyard.

You're not serious are you???

I knew he was cheap... but I figured he'd atleast spring for new ones! Subaru's aren't very common in yards around here.

Fully serious. We've been running over 200K mile stock 95 Impreza top mounts on a turbo GC8 Impreza with DMS 50s for over three years.

Seeriously, does it make any difference if a part is new or used or good or bad if I am serious or not?
Everything on a car is used as soon as...............you use it.

If the part is good, you spin off a couple or three bolts, stick your finger thru the bearing and giver 'er a spin, amd then make a decision---a judgement call, and decide if this big honking burly thing is worth $5,

or more properly: Is that crude disc of ex-beer can and 5 BBs that VAG calls a top mount worth risking an entry and tow on?

You're mnot looking in the right yards, they must be common, everywhere is infested with farting elepahnts out here.

One thing that I noticed on the suby top mounts is that some of the bearings dont have a sheild on the top half of it. And there are these little rubber plugs that are supposed to go in the center hole of the mount after everything is together to keep the top strut nut nice and shiny. Without that rubber cap the half sheilded bearings will injest gritties and generally start sucking at doing their job. So keep the rubber caps and check that the bearings have sheilds on both sides!
