Junkyard Scavenging?
March 13, 2008 04:24PM
I hope to be hitting a Upull it type junkyard this weekend. If i find an vw aba obd1 block easy enough to take out i ll be taking that. Along with that i will be getting a mk2 gearbox as the one in the car has some fitment issues. I also will be getting me some sube top mounts. However i am interesting in getting an oil cooler setup as well. I remember John suggesting that the volvos having some. Would they fit a standard vw cooler thingy? any other suggestions? anything else i should look for while there?

Find an RX-7 and grab its oil cooler. If they're cheap enough grab two or three and mail 'em to me.

When ever I am in a junk yard I always take a large selection of bolts too, they often do not even ask for payment on the bolts and having good quality metric nuts and bolts is priceless for many projects.

If you are looking for VW upgrades look for MkIII front brakes and spindles. I am pretty sure that is what the Wimpey's are running on their VW.

I do not know what your spare situation looks like but I am always looking for spare suspension parts like rear beams, a-arms. etc. Even a beat up junk yard part is better than DNFing a rally.

VW Corado Brakes are the good ones the rest are all about the same. The Corado Spendels and calipers are decent sized and can get to the end of most stages with out too much fade as long as I used Porterfield R4 pads.

I havent had issues with my hubs yet but Mark B. @sandblast pointed out i will need a bearing and possibly a tie rod soon. Another reason for an upgrade. I am feeling lazy now, it looks like it will rain and be in the low 40s this weekend.
