Shimming an LSD

Ok John/Tim/Lurch/other more learned peoples then myself... How the hell am I supposed to shim this thing? I'll get some pics in a bit. I just need to resize them.

Got some scrap half shafts to plug into the diff?

Gotta have some means of checking break away torque.

No point in yakking about it if you don't have some half shafts.

Since you didn't do a test of what the existing "breakaway" torque was, how can you say what shimming it with a shim say 020 right there----> will increase the breakaway by?
Get something to poke into the diff. Weld a nut to one (choose a nut you have a socket for maybe 1".
I'll tell you more when you have the stubshafts.

Well, I took it apart to replace clutch discs and bearings to rebuild it. So, that was inevitable. I just took pictures along the way.

Out of curiousity, if welding a diff shut works, why couldnt I take the "average" sized shim and shove it in there? It wouldnt be precise, but it would be something...

And the half shaft hunt is on. I wonder what else has that axle pattern...
