MSD 7AL on Saab
March 31, 2008 02:22PM
Does anyone know how to hook up an MSD to a saab 900?

Car is mid 80's NA 2.0, bosch disributer, hall sensor, little igition controller thingy. MSD is an ex circle track 7al that's been facotry modified to let it work with a 4cyl.

any thoughts or experiences would be great.

Thanks.

I just took a quick look at Jeg's website. Look's like you can get new MSD ignition systems there that support 4 bangers as well as dedicated wiring harnesses, (for a lot $ than kevlar) which I imagine would greatly simplify Brett's latest project. ;-)

Brett's new project...I like that!

Yeah, so what I was trying to figure out was if the hall sensor in the saab distributer could fire the msd all by it's self. Turns out that's a no. I need to keep the chunk of saab ignition module, distibuter wiring, etc intact and fire the msd off of that.

This is unless I dump all that shit and get some sort of crank-triggered stand-alone stuff like fancy-pants Sorenson. smiling smiley

Thanks guys.

...Brett's new project...priceless.

Christ, the flywheel is on the front, right, where even I could fing it. How hard would it be to intall a mag pick up that the MSD box would like.

Uh, I don't like where this conversation is going. And aren't all your projects my projects eventually?

Is an MSD ignition box better than the stock stuff on a SAAB 900? Is that what Ola Stromberg came to you in a dream and told you to run? Did yer bed smell like gear oil when you woke up?

It looks like you still have to keep the distributor and coil and that the "magic" multi-spark crap only operates below 3000rpm anyhow.

We just ran the stock stuff back in the day. Sometimes bought the Bosch "blue" coils and diddled with the stock advance. I think.

It better be ready fer Baie!

If they didn't call them Mysterious Spark Disappearance and if I knew there were to be 2 boxes wired up wouldn't be so baffled as to the "Why the fuck bother" of this, but they do call them Mysterious Spark Disappearance, and smart people do wire in 2 of them.
