Obviously I am completely outnumbered here and too dumb not to chime in, but I had a great time with my wife's P car (Sentra SE-R)and am still having a good time with my wife's PGT (bug-eye wrx, yo) car. I looked at Gaylants for a while until Satan and Subaru support made me build a Sub-a-rat.
Art Chabot still has a PGT Galant in the North East. Cool car!
Going open class does make things easier when building or when it's time to replace things. And it should help with power to weight ratio.
If you are starting out, the main things are to have fun and gain experience and you can do that in any class. The Galant has lot's of rally history and of course DSM boneyard parts.
Enjoy the Galant in whatever classification.
Canada now has Mitsu contingency money even for older cars!
