so back on topic:

These gussets are welded between the roll cage and the chassis?

I see its a continuous weld to the roll cage, I assume the weld to the chassis is as well?

Purpose of this is too....stiffen/stregthen the chassis....help disperse energy in case of an impact....anything else?

Yes the flocking not really a must on some cars but this one was fooking terrible and and since the windshield was out, might as well pimp it out a bit. This flock looks flocking nice though. I'll post a pic tomorow. Some of me mates back in Yurope like to use suede or imitation suede and spray glue it to the dash but almost always ends up looking like ass crack unless its a fairly flat dash.

Grant, can you still make those thingies?

Thanks,

dave...amar has the fancy flocking gun that uses compressed air...works tons better than the manual shaker version. I used it on my srt and if i can get him to find it i'll be borrowing it again very soon. Maybe you should bug him too so he'll find it faster.....

Pretty silly that I have to use this fancy interwebs techology just to find out that my own co-driver has the thing I'm looking for...

The ties between cage and A&B pillars can more than doubles the overall strength in certain directions, I have been told. A quick thought about bending strength for 2 parallel tubes tied together would yield a tripling or quadrupling of strength in the plane in which they lie. (Assuming the ties and welds were strong enough.)

Funny thing....I got the Opel main cage parts totally welded, and the feet and cage welded in place. While admiring the work, I happened to wrap my hands around the the upper part A-pillar and A-pillar tubes and gave it a squeeze. To my surprise the, upper cage moved up to 3/16" and A pillar did not! This will change when the main hoop bracing, backstays, and backstay bracing is added. but it goes to show the actual tubing resistance to bending versus a basic car's.

And if you thoughtlessly stick your fingers around a cage tube near the roof while the rally car is bouncing over a mildly rough stage, you will get a painful education on how much the cage and car move relative to one another when not tied together.....

Regards,
Mark B.

I would also recommend wearing a mask when doing it, the flocking particles are really, really fine and easily inhaled.

I'm still coughing 24 hours later. Stupid me. It does look badass cool.

Given the frequency with which both of us drive, odds are he won't have to choose between us any time soon...
