It's ALIVE!!!!!
*Now with negative camber!*

Hooray for SolidWorks!!!

There are now two camber settings, which I have not adjusted at all. The camber bolts on the struts are set to zero, and the top mounts are set at full negative (same as before the monster struts, but now it actually produces negative camber!). Oh yeah, and I need a new tie rod end, coz I stole one for my street car a few months ago.

The numbers are:
Bilstein B46 inserts (400/160)
325# springs x 14"L

That's one bitchin brick, nice work!

I'm sure this is old news for brickers, but what rotor are you using with that Mazda caliper? I expected some 2-piece job with a homebrew hat to get the spacing right, but that looks like production stuff.

Dave, when I designed the brake set up I said to Kevvi "got get the "big" diameter 740 discs" He gave me the what year what, then I smacked him fore and and back hand, with both hands. It's called "Coming and Going" school. He brought the "Big" rotors and didn't ask silly questions again.

So to answer your question, they're the BIG 280mm x 22 740 198 whatever discs.

Well I would say intelligent, but maybe "good solid down to earth".
Yeah yesterday evening we planned out the next stage: finishing the mounting brackets and junk-n-stuff to get the Toyota axle in and to make a fixture so's I can show him how to set up the break-away torque on the LSD and we can move on to getting the towers and longer shocks installed AND TRY THE THING OUT!

Oh, the red 96 went like stink with new gas!!
Left some black marks the length of the car in the driveway. Tee Hee!
Kevin drove it and got out and said "FAAAAWK!" 1965cc V4 tee hee.

I'm sure you've already got something in the works, but that brake line is going to have something supporting it, right?

On a street/track car, I'd worry about fatigue, but on a rally car you don't have to sweat it. A rock will take it out long before it gets a chance to fatigue...

That's a really cool set up!

I'll be really interested to hear how it works out when you start testing/driving it in anger.

If you get a chance - can you take pictures with a tire mounted to show what kind of clearance you have between the tire and spring?

Jooooooviiiiiist! Of course. And this time it's way bigger than ever before.

When we wuz sharing the ride way back it was 1885cc now its 1965cc and in stark contrast to almost always in the past the top end AND bottom end is all fresh at the same time.

On the old stroker motor I had 70.8 stroke, 134mm rods and 92mm pistons at 34.5 comp hgt. In this one I have 70.8 stroke, 137.1 rods, 94mm pistons with 31.4mm comp hgt.

It feels really strong.

Awesome!

So how many bars you going to need to add to the cage to meet the rules?

Never mind the fact that it's an old Saab and it's stronger stock than most modern crap WITH a cage.

Don't know. It's been caged and logbooked forever and the cage meets the FIA specs aside from WRC cars homologated after 2002.

Who da fawk knows.

Same with the Xratty. Roof, X in main hoop, second door bar. who the fawk knows.

With the ciggie-smoking cooperation of JVL,
we mapped out the rear floorpan and some of the "frame".
Came up with a pretty damn coherent plan
based on actual dimensions.
SolidWorks fucking rocks. (And puts John to sleep).

Hey Tim, can you please send me that turret file?
Tha'd be awesome!

PS. that's not the actual floorplan,
but a carefully crafted facsimile of what we actually made today.
I just forgot to send the file to my laptop,
and I already had this from mucking around earlier (and later too).

I will post the real floorplan later.

Thanks Tim!

It looks like with the Toyota axle, I won't have to cut in to the frame rails to get the shocks to clear the tires.

(This was done with the REAL floorpan model!)

Still working on the model...
